PB22-Y3 Trident Naval Patrol Bomber

Description
Welcome to the 45th!

Now introducing the latest in long range advanced bomber designs from our team, the PB22-Y3 TRIDENT. Designed as a long range patrol/ anti-shipping weapon, the trident represents the final evolution of such legendary aircraft as the Catalina flying boats and Privateer heavy bombers (on which the air frame is based). The Trident is the next step in the technologies we previously used on the Requiem Strategic bomber, refined and expanded for the most immersive bomber game-play in Stormworks!

Startup/Takeoff Procedure

Its a complicated one, just hang in there :)

- Open windows (Realistic)
- Turn on all Magnetos (Top center)
- Open Intercooler 1 (Forwards)
- Set Engine 1 to START
- Charge Starter until light illuminates (Overhead)
- Use cockpit buttons or crank to turn No.1 engine until 5lbs oil pressure, then release
- Press and Hold Starter Clutch until light goes out (overhead)
- Once engine has reached 600RPM and 70lbs oil pressure, set engine to RUN
- Repeat for all engines, switching starter bank to RIGHT for engines 3&4
- When all engines running, release parking brake OR external wheel chocks
- Set Throttle to 0.05- 0.09 for taxi pitch (Below 0.05 is idle)
- Set throttle to above 0.1 for takeoff pitch
- Set full power for takeoff (2300RPM, 120+ Lbs Oil pressure)
- Apply push brakes and retract landing gear once airborne
- Set autopilot above 2000ft
- Clear/Arm Guns once cruising

(See, you got it)

Stations

The trident has three main compartments, the nose, which has the navigator and bombardier/front gunner, the flight deck with Pilot and Copilot and the gunnery compartment with critical systems and THE GUNS.

Nose

The nose contains two stations, the bombardier and navigator. The bombardier is in charge of putting boom on target, and has a bomb-sight and release controls to aid this process. The bombardier can take control of the heading autopilot, doing so requires both pilot and bombardier authorization, then use of the A and D keys. The Bombardier also has a turret, used with hotkey 1 and looking forwards. TO DROP BOMBS: first open the sight using the switch, then the bay doors using hotkey 2, then select which bombs you want using the right panel, then hold space to drop. The navigator plots a route using the GPS input, which also activates the bomb computer, which tells the bombardier when to drop with a light.

Flight Deck

The Flight deck is where the captain and copilot work diligently to keep the aircraft in order and in the air, and is equipped with a variety of systems to aid that process. For quality of life the seats move back to allow non-hosts to escape them in flight. The cockpit's two stations have distinct roles, the pilot commands the aircraft and flies (although the co-pilot can take control with a key in the center), while the co-pilot keeps the 4 massive engines running, monitoring their systems and changing settings as necessary. Watch for any oil leaks or RPM drops, they signify damage and can lead to fires and breakdowns.

Gunnery

The Trident, being designed for long journeys far outside the range of fighter cover, and for solo scouting missions, is positively festooned in guns. A grand total of 12 .50 Caliber MGs protect the plane from all sides, including below by use of the ball turret. All of these guns have to be loaded before firing, do this by simply pressing the CHARGING HANDLE until it clicks over. The guns may also overheat and jam if fired continuously, clear them with the same method. The Top turrets have height adjustment for better visibility, and the ball turret drops down to engage. (MAKE SURE TO ALIGN STRAIGHT BACK BEFORE GOING UP)

DAMAGE

This plane is outfitted with the latest evolution of the damage system first trialed on the Requiem. Engines will break down, leak oil, catch fire and lose power according to what's been hit. Hydraulics will leak according to how many leaks there are, and critical systems will die slowly, giving time for repairs or escape.

Engines

The engines have three main failure modes, Shutdowns, Fires and leaks of various types. Fires and shutdowns are the most serious, and should be dealt with immediately, either by attempting a restart, or shutting the engine down, cutting fuel and oil, and pulling the fire lever before repairing. Leaks are slightly less serious and come in two forms, oil and hydraulics. An oil leak or loss of coolant is shown through the drop in oil pressure on an engine, and corresponding loss of power, repair the engine constant ons to fix. A hydraulic pump failure shows on the main hydraulic board below the forward top turret as a loss of pressure, this will be explained in more detail below.

Hydraulics

The hydraulics are split on this aircraft for redundancy, left, right, center and aft sectors all function independently, but can have some effects on the others. right, left and center control the main landing gear and bomb-bay doors, as well as power roll controls, these are fed by engine pumps, and lose power if the engines are damaged. The aft sector controls the ball turret elevation and tail gear, plus power controls in the tail. Each of these has an accumulator station, just fore of the tail guns for the aft, and grouped under the forward top turret for the rest, repair these first if any damage is occurring. Cranks can be used to operate Landing gear and ball turret in case of total failure.

Miscellaneous

Autopilot: First turn on power, then heading and altitude control before adjusting
Lights: Located on overhead between pilots with day, night/stealth, and landing options
Alarm: Located next to pilot's left leg
Brakes: Push brakes available for pilots using space
Trim: Rudder trim and slip indicator available for pilots
