Black Steel

Steel Recolours
6 items
Description
Based on my other Auric Steel mod. Adds an alloy of steel and black bronze that performs identically to steel, but looks like black bronze. Very imposing!

2 steel + 1 black bronze + fuel = 2 black steel bars
2 steel + 1 obsidian + fuel = 2 black steel bars

Apologies for not getting back to this, I've had a lot going on. I've tried installing all those mods alongside each other, and I can still create the coloured steel items. Is this issue still persisting?

I know I tweaked some file numbers a while ago due to issues with the wrong versions being uploaded, perhaps that had an effect?

Based on my installed_mods folder I have about 50 mods, but most of them are graphical tweaks. Here’s a list of those that make changes to the OBJECTS folder, with the likely culprits on top:
Language Overhaul (10) - this one actually has a lot of stuff on Entity:Mountain, it has an entity_default.txt and it’s supposed to be loaded way high in the load order.
Refuel (106) - this one also messes with reactions, although afaik they’re all Wood Furnace reactions
Stone Beds (5006) - has a few reactions for the Stoneworker
Smelt By Product (2)
Audible Alerts (1007)
Auric Steel (13 and 14)
Black Steel (11 and 12)
Green Steel (11 and 12)
Red Steel (11 and 12)
White Steel (11 and 12)
blue_cobaltite (1)
clinodev's Dry Mines (3)
Combat Log (2)
Fix Whip (1)
Golder Gold (100)
Over Boots (1)
SM Gnoll Civ (3) and its portraits (1 and 101)
SM Ratfolk Civ (2) and its portraits (1)

Such as humans in your fort? As I understand, you'll need equipment sized for them, which you can make by having a human or elf armorsmith make the equipment, as armor and clothes are made to fit the size of the creature that crafts it.

If you're asking about having other races naturally show up with it, that would require adding a couple lines to the entity_black_steel file in the mod to give other races access.

hi, any idea how to get other races to be able to wear the black steel items?

Is it just one save that this issue occurs in? I tried running my mods alongside smelt by product and it worked fine, so I'm thinking either something's funky with your save, or it's another mod that edits the MOUNTAIN entity. Can you give a full list of the mods you're using?

I updated all of them and the updates got all the way to the save file, but it didn't solve the issue unfortunately. Actually, I just noticed that I do indeed have a mod that fiddles with Smelters: Smelt by Product. I wonder if that's causing a conflict?

Is there a safe way to take that other mod out from an active save without messing up everything?

I tried adding the reaction info from reaction_auric_steel.txt to the bottom of reaction_smelt_by_product.txt and did the same for the entity files, but that didn't seem to help either.

Hm, not sure if this'll fix that, but I just uploaded some quick tweaks and adjusted the version numbers. Maybe one of the wrong versions got uploaded.
Plz let me know if this helps! If it doesn't, I'll work on a solution

I'm having problems with your steel mods: I can try to make items out of auric, black etc steel, but I can't find the reaction for creating any of the alloys on my Smelters. Can't find the reaction through general Orders either, just a whole bunch for making/forging stuff.

I am running a bunch of other mods, but not any that affect Smelters, as far as I know.

Welcome! It was a rather silly oversight on my part haha

Thanks for the bar amount fix!
