MILW Hiawatha Pack - Pt.1

Description
This is Part 1 of the Hiawatha Pack. When the second part is done, I will provide a link to it here.

-----===== HISTORY =====-----

During the 1930s, the Chicago Burlington & Quincy, the Chicago & North Western and the Milwaukee Road all competed to have the best service on the Chicago - Twin cities corridor, with each of them having a luxurious passenger service offered by impressive motive power - CB&Q's streamlined Twin Cities Zephyr diesel train set and C&NW's Twin Cities 400 - which were serious competition to the MILW's service. So in 1935, the MILW ordered 3 streamlined steam locomotives, and also built their own streamlined cars, to create their new named express train: The Hiawatha.

The 3 members of the A Class were oil burning 4-4-2 Atlantics, with a sleek streamlined casing designed by Otto Kuhler. The locomotive featured unconventional aspects for its era, being an Atlantic type instead of a more usual Pacific. Its wheel arrangement was no error, it was intentionally done to reduce reciprocating mass. Similarly, its main rod connected to the 1st driver instead of the 2nd, done for the same reason.

The Twin Cities Hiawatha was a huge success, so much so that the fleet of 3 streamliners were not enough for the demand. Soon enough, a 4th member was ordered, though it was evident new motive power would be needed for these trains. In 1938, 6 new streamlined 4-6-4 Hudson types would be ordered from Alco, with more passenger cars being built by the Milwaukee. The new F7 class would make their mark, hauling the premier passenger trains of the Milwaukee Road, reaching speeds of nearly 120 miles per hour (190 kmh), possibly going even faster.

With the popularity of the new streamliner service, more Hiawatha trains were added to timetables, with the Twin Cities Hiawatha being split into the Morning and Afternoon (AM & PM) Hiawathas, new Midwest, North Woods, Chippewa and Olympian Hiawathas were now running all along the Milwaukee Road's Midwestern lines, and more equipment was ordered or getting upgrades.

In August 1950, F7 102 was running the North Woods Hiawatha as usual, when its valve gear malfunctioned, with many parts being broken and flying off at dangerous speeds, with the track also suffering damages. Reports on injuries are conflicting, however no one was fatally injured.

In 1949, an A class and a F7 Class were both retired for spare parts for the rest of the fleet, and with the cost of upkeep for the steam streamliners being higher than most other locomotives, they were some of the first to go after the dieselization. After 102's wreck, it was deemed unworthy of repair and scrapped. The rest of the fleet soon met the same fate in 1951, However, the Hiawatha service would continue on to this day, now under Amtrak.

Hey folks! Sorry for the delay, but streamliners with their own matching passenger cars were a much larger undertaking than I was expecting, and as a result, I have split this pack in half so I can work on secondary projects without as much of a distraction. I've been juggling several mods, livery, and layout ideas recently, which has also made it difficult to focus on this pack. However, I am excited for what will come next, and hopefully these ideas will materialize within the near future.

I think an Everett street station map would be amazing for this mod because since it's the home station, it facilitated both the different types of Hiawatha trains, as well as the normally scheduled passenger trains.

I would like to think of making a Hiawatha route: City of Chicago to City of Milwaukee, taking place in an alternate history where Hiawatha engineers were never scrapped.
