Shrek The Halls Full Movie JPEG Decoder Tech Demo

In an epic collaboration between Bluejammer and Mondo, we have produced a functional JPEG decoder for stormworks that can be used to display still images as well as videos with high levels of compression and quality.

This is a preliminary release of the JPEG decoder that we have been working on, to demonstrate its functionality.

Load the addon and then type ?spawn to make the video player appear next to you. Type in ?despawn to remove it.


This creation takes in raw JPEG images, decodes, and displays them on a screen.

Playback will increase to 60fps once the video has finished loading, as indicated by the lights on the right or the buffer % on the top display. Once this happens it may be necessary to reduce playback speed to match the video.

The time it will take to fully load, and how much the speed will need to be adjusted, will depend on your computer hardware.


For the extra curious, the decoder we are using has been built to comply with ITU standard T81 as detailed here, with a few notable omissions: https://www.w3.org/Graphics/JPEG/itu-t81.pdf It is capable of decoding baseline JPEG images of resolutions from 16x16 to 288x160, with YUV420 chroma subsampling. Support for 8 bit , sequential and non-sequential huffman tables, as well as single and multiple quantization tables. Hex data is pulled directly from JPEG files and encoded with base64.
