Glasgow Subway

Description
To say the Railway Company chairman, Lord Stafford Featherstonehaugh, was pleased with your outstanding performance at the Steam Day would be an understatement. His personal staff were astonished to see a rare smile of delight on his face.

As a loyal company employee, the board now wants to share their ambitious plans for the near future, and they hope you can help bring them to life. Needless to say, this project, code named Shoogle, is top secret, and we’ve already received your signed non-disclosure agreement.

The company is expanding into Scotland with plans to purchase the Glasgow Subway. There have already been several visits, and although some of the 15 stations haven't changed since the time they were built, improvement works have begun. The network operates two loops running in opposite directions, completing a full circuit in approximately 28 minutes, including 15-second stops at each station. Each track is about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) long, with 8 trains running on each loop (16 in total). The average waiting time between trains running in the same direction is 3 minutes and 43 seconds.

A bit of history: The Glasgow Subway, opened on December 14, 1896, is the third-oldest underground metro system in the world, after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro. Originally a cable railway, it was later electrified and has remained a double-track circular line ever since. Despite its age, the subway continues to serve as a vital transport link for the city.

Enough with the statistics—here's your next mission.

You will enter St. Enoch station just after midnight, once all regular services have shut down. St. Enoch exemplifies the central platform design used when it was originally built. For this night's mission, most stations have reduced lighting levels to conserve energy, and the 16 trains run using AI. At this point, you are warned that the board has heard tales of a lone ghostly bagpipe player, known as Duncan MacLeod, haunting some of the stations overnight. Legend has it that Duncan was a devoted piper who played to entertain the workers during the subway's construction. Tragically, he met his end in a tunnel collapse, and now his spectral tunes echo through the night, especially when strangers are about.

Take your time to explore each station and ensure the AI trains are running properly. Once you have visited all 15 stations, you can head home for some well-earned rest. We'll expect you at head office the following day with your findings.

You can travel between stations as a passenger in either direction. You can also take over the driving from the AI, but remember to stick to the 22 MPH speed limit and switch the AI back on after you're done driving.

On a personal note, Lord Featherstonehaugh has asked you to find his briefcase, which he left behind somewhere. It's a distinctive green colour bearing his initials 'AR'. You will also find a trigger device that, when activated, opens up the station monitoring room. In this room, you can see the locations of all 16 trains.

Here's where your logic prowess might come into play. The indicators are not set correctly. Obviously you can't check all the stations at once -- only the one you're in now. See if you can get the display to work correctly. (Click on the light indicator to turn that sector off or on). Each train should only have max two adjoining lights moving in the direction of travel. Black inner line – anticlockwise and the Orange, outer line going clockwise. There should be at least two blank indicators between each train.

Give it a go; it will blow your mind.

Don't forget to bring some food and water, and we suggest you dine under the glass ceiling at Cessnock station and gaze at the stars.

Good luck, and remember—not a word to anyone.

Technical Details:

The map uses 3 packaged mods and 2 custom images, which should download automatically. The sprinter trains (obviously not subway trains) have a red livery to resemble the 1960s trains that used to run.

Mods:

Subway Platform: Optimised for sprinter door height and central platform.

SubwayInnerCeiling: For the curved roof.

SubwayTunnel: Used for 95% of the track. Optimised for the sprinter train.

AI Issues:

If you teleport into a train, you will need to switch the AI off and on (front unit only) unless you intend to drive it. Switch the AI back on after you have finished driving.

It is best to enter a train through the door (press the switch). Entering the rear unit of the train stops the AI from working properly, so stick to the front unit. Teleporting out of the train (front unit) doesn't seem to affect the AI.

General Rule: If the train is in a station for more than 15 seconds and the signal is not red, switch the AI off and back on again.

I'm thinking early 1970s but it's not meant to be protypical.
