The Forgotten Giant @ Heide Park | Intamin Giga Coaster Concept | + Colossos | + Giant's Little Bumblebee

Description
Introduction:
This park is a fictional recreation of a part of Heide Park, Germany. It contains three different coasters, namely "The Forgotten Giant", "Colossos" and "Giant's Little Bumblebee".

The Forgotten Giant:
This is my fourth coaster. It is a concept for an Intamin giga-coaster at Heide Park (Germany). Around 2000/2001 while the wooden coaster "Colossos" was still under construction, Heide Park planned to build a steel coaster next to "Colossos". The goal was to build the tallest, steepest and fastest coaster in the world at this time (Over 100 m tall and steeper than 80°). But the plan was postponed from year to year and at some point the plan got discarded completely. The reasons were the high costs and the fact that now Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point (USA) had been build and it was much taller then the giga-coaster could have been. Also Heide Park needed more family friendly attractions in the next years.

In a German TV documentary (RTL, Spiegel TV) about the construction of "Colossos", German coaster engineer Werner Stengel showed briefly a technical drawing of a possible layout of this coaster. It clearly shows that this coaster should have been a "Millennium Force"-like giga-coaster design (Cedar Point, USA).

I tried to recreate this layout in NoLimits 2. To do this, I used an overlay inside the NoLimits 2 editor of Google Earth Images from Heide Park to match the correct sizes and first build "Colossos". Then I tried to stick closely to the technical drawing. Unfortunately, the technical drawing shows just one angle and is in bad quality so it was not easy. Furthermore, I hade to change the layout a bit because I was not able to obtain allowed g-forces in all turns. Also the final height of the coaster is "just" 103 m because going higher made the g-force problem too bad to handle (Originally they planed with an height of up to 125 m)!

Stats:
  • Height: 103 m (338ft)
  • Speed: 155 km/h (96 mph)
  • First Drop Angle: 84 Degree
  • Length 2403 m (7884 feet)
  • Capacity: 1150 Riders/h

Colossos:
It is a recreation of the prefabricated wooden coaster "Colossos". In the NoLimits2 editor I used an overlay of Google Earth Images from Heide Park to match the correct sizes and scales. A standalone version and more information about this recreation you can find here:

Giant's Little Bumblebee:
This is a simple Gerstlauer family coaster. Nothing fancy or special about it. I added it to the park because there was so much space left between the two large coasters. Additionally, one reason why Heide Park didn't build the giga-coaster was that they needed more family friendly attractions. So I added a family coaster to make everyone happy xD.
The coaster is scripted so that it can recover itself after an emergency stop with a train on the launch.

Performance Issues:
The supports of the lift hill of "The Forgotten Giant" have a quite big impact on the simulation performance. If the performance is too bad, first try to lower the quality of the shadows. If this doesn’t help you can go in the editor and delete parts of the supports :(. If you want to enjoy "Colossos" by its own with better performance, downloand the standalone version of it here:

Wow this ride would have been world-class if it was constructed. Incredible work as always, love the supports too! (that lift hill is beautiful)
