SNCF USI Coach / SNCB K4 Coach

Description
SNCF USI Coach / SNCB K4 Coach
The USI coaches (for Unifiées de Service Intérieur) are iconic SNCF passenger cars, introduced from the 1960s to modernize a heterogeneous rail fleet and replace the series of coaches from former networks still in service.

Designed by the Division des Études de Voitures (DEV), they were ordered between 1960 and 1971, with 803 units delivered between 1962 and 1974 by Ateliers du Nord de la France (ANF). They were designed to operate medium-distance express services and were particularly notable for their innovative 'coach' layout (open-plan seating with a central aisle), a configuration that was rare in Europe for mainline coaches at the time, though inspired by the United States.
They initially featured the Celtic green 301 livery applied to UIC coaches, later replaced by the C160 livery in garrigue green 302 and aluminum gray 806. This livery was updated in 1978 with concrete gray 804 and single-color doors in the same gray.
Later, they played a significant role in the design of the Corail coaches, their younger sisters, which became much more successful. The Corail cars gradually replaced the USI coaches on long-distance services, relegating them to major transversal express routes and later to regional services as even older stock was phased out.
From the 1990s-2000s, several regions (notably Midi-Pyrénées, PACA, Rhône-Alpes) renovated their USI fleets for TER services. These coaches then sported a blue Isabelle/metallic gray livery similar to the Corail. Some non-renovated cars retained the C160 livery but with the TER logo.

They were gradually withdrawn from service starting in the 1990s, with their regular operation ending between 2006 and 2008, depending on the region. Their final disappearance occurred at the end of the winter service in the PACA region in 2010.
Outside of France, a certain number operated in Belgium and the Netherlands, known as K4 coaches. Following their decommissioning in France, some were sold to Senegal/Mali and Gabon, where they remained in service until 2020.

Cette méthode de coloration semble nécessiter une combinaison stricte de trains. Assorti à la couleur du train et à la couleur des voitures de voyageurs. Cela nécessite un niveau de prudence tel que même les personnes presbytes pleureraient. Merci beaucoup. merci. merci.merci.merci.
