Description
This mod replaces my older F59PH mod, which has been deprecated.

The EMD F59PH is a diesel-electric locomotive used primarily for intercity and commuter rail service in the United States. Orginally purchased by only GO Transit of Canada and Metrolink; these units have been sold, and resold a few times, and now find themselves on use on multiple US commuter rail operations (plus NC DOT's intercity Piedmont Service). Trinity Railway Express are replacing their F59PHs with Siemens chargers in the coming years, while Metrolink's F59PHs are part of their reserve fleet.

This mod also includes NCDOT's cab units. In 2014 NCDOT converted 5 F59PHs to cab control units to facilitate push-pull operations on the Piedmont Service.

Liveries:
  • Metra (Chicago, IL)
  • Metrolink - Plain White (LA)
  • Metrolink - script M (LA)
  • North Carolina DOT
  • Trinity Railway Express (Dallas-Forth Worth TX)

Stats
Year Introduced: 1988
Max Speed: 110mph (177km/h)
Power: 2240kw (0kw for Cab Unit)
Length: 58'2" (17.73m)
Cost: $4m ($2.5m for cab unit)

Yeah putting a hard acceleration cap is often a matter of taste and giving a better idea of the performance of the train for people who don't understand that it's actually limited by tractive effort. If no tractive effort is supplied by the mod then as stated in the mod development guide it will give it as much as required to reach the max acceleration. Limiting tractive effort instead of acceleration does give the best freedom to the end user. Really it's a problem with the game, only showing the Max Acceleration in the buy menu (which is the lowest of all max acceleration values along the train) rather than the actual acceleration value as limited by tractive effort, which can only been seen after a train is bought.
Regardless, I really appreciate the addition of these stats, and it really is up to you what you choose to do with the mod. I'm quite happy with the mod now.

Actually let me know if its any better now? The default value is cap; fixing the power should mean that with correct power/tractive effort/weight; max should be lower than 1 m/s/s now.

It will still accelerate at maximum rate for the duration of its acceleration tho

Or maybe not? hrm I'll play around. I guess misunderstood and with power and tractive effort it still sets a default of 1/m/s/s for acceleration

For acceleration, I may try playing with it at some point, but I think unrealistic acceleration is mostly a game function.
290kN is the real life tractive effort; likely higher acceleration speeds are bc of how the game has maximum acceleration for the entirety of acceleration time. So in real life you'd get less tractive effort (and therefore speed of acceleration) from say 15-40mph than you do from 0-15; in game it takes that 0-15 max value for the duration of the acceleration until you hit your running speed

Fixed the power. Thanks for pointing that out!

Also would you be open to implementing some more accurate acceleration values similar to Danny252's F40PH mod?

Hi, there's a typo in the data. The locomotive unit has 22,400kW, instead of the 2,240kW it should have. Terrific mod, thank you very much!
