This is a separate guide I made for the Side Stories collectible achievement.

Compared from "It Takes Two", instead of mini-games, we have side stories. These are mini sections that can be found and are optional in terms of progressing the story. Most of them are not hard to miss but some are quite tricky to find. If you complete all of them, you'll unlock the Bookworms achievement.

You can activate each side story by entering their portals. One thing you need to look out for is the glowing aura/effect. If you found a glowing area on some levels that means that a side story is nearby. Oftentimes, one of the characters also outright says that they found a portal nearby.

If you're achievement hunting, some of the gameplay achievements can also be unlocked in some side stories.

NOTE: To make each side story count for the achievement, you need to finish the side story from
start to finish (upon entering the portal and exiting it). There are also some side stories that have mini bosses you need to defeat in order to finish it.

* DON'T WORRY, if there's any side stories you missed along the way, you can still unlock the achievement by replaying those stories on CHAPTER SELECT.

There's a total of 12 Side Stories in the game. Here's how to find them all:

CHAPTER 2: Neon Revenge
SUB-CHAPTER 2: Play Me Techno

At the start of the Play Me Techno sub-level, when the characters fell down after battling the SRI, the 1st side story is introduced. This side story is pretty obvious and part of the cutscene so it's not hard to find.

After the cutscene, jump inside the portal.

CHAPTER 2: Neon Revenge
SUB-CHAPTER 4: Streets of Neon

After defeating the 1st boss, Mr. Hammer and sliding down a glass platform, go forward through the stairs and you'll see a fence that you can grapple and jump over. Jump over that fence and you'll see the 2nd side story that you need to complete.


In this particular side story, both characters will be pigs and each has their own specific powers/abilities. Mio's ability is fart flying while Zoe's ability is stretching. Complete the 1st section first by finding 2 apples to unlock the first door.



Once you unlocked the 1st door, go forward to the path and you'll see a HUGE PIG on the left-side just laying near the mud.


Use Mio's Pig Fart powers to fly on the Huge Pig's stomach. After hitting its stomach, there will be a short cutscene where the huge pig will fart. After that, you will get this achievement.


Find another set of apples and open this section's 2nd door. Keep moving forward until you unlock a 3rd door. After passing through the 3rd door, you'll face a pig bragging about his brick house which is "indestructible".



Use Mio's Pig Fart powers again to fly on the back of the pig's brick house. You can find the bullseye target at the back of the house and use that as a guide to break the house. After the house is broken, you'll get this achievement.

If it's not obvious, this is a reference to a popular fable, Three Little Pigs.


* Just play out the rest of the side story and make sure to finish it in order to make it count for the achievement.

CHAPTER 2: Neon Revenge
SUB-CHAPTER 7: Big City Life

Eventually, you'll land on a rooftop of a building with 3 porta potties stationed at the edge. The main path is directly in front of these porta potties (just passing through the gap with moving cars).

But before we go there, look behind you and you'll see a platform at the top with a ladder. In order to reach the top platform, let Mio go inside one of the porta potties then use Zoe's gravity whip to hold it and throw the porta potty onto the platform (with Mio inside it). Once Mio has reached the top platform, let her knock down the ladder so Zoe can climb to the top as well.

Enter the portal to start the 3rd side story.

CHAPTER 3: Hopes of Spring
SUB-CHAPTER 2: Lord Evergreen

Once you get to this section in the Lord Evergreen sub-chapter, instead of going to the left-side (the area with a lot of plants in the water), go to the front where the area is glowing. The glowing effect is one of the indications that there's a side story in that area.

Go to the glowing area, grapple and wall run until you reach the side story portal.

CHAPTER 3: Hopes of Spring
SUB-CHAPTER 5: Walking Stick of Doom

After crossing the rope bridge and seeing the legs of the Walking Stick of Doom for the 1st time, keep moving forward until you arrive on an open area. On the left-side of it, you'll see a glowing area. This glowing area is the next side story.

Keep pushing forward. Jump on the platform and wall run until you reach the side story portal.


There's also one gameplay achievement you can earn in this side story which is considered as the HARDEST ACHIEVEMENT of the game. In order to earn this achievement, you need to complete the ENTIRE side story without the bomb exploding.

There are 7 levels in total to this gameshow (including the practice throw session). The main objective is to keep passing the bomb back and forth between 2 players until you reach the end of the platform where you'll be able to throw away the bomb. The main catch is, the bomb will explode if one of you will hold it out longer. Hence, why you need to keep passing it.

---

1ST LEVEL - PRACTICE THROW
You get to try out and throw the bomb back and forth 4 times before starting the official game. This part is included in the "Cold Potato" achievement so be careful in throwing off the bomb.

2ND LEVEL - WARMUP
This level is quite simple and straight forward. Just keep passing off the bomb back and forth until you get to throw away the bomb in the finish line.

3RD LEVEL
On this level with a glass wall at the middle, the players need to jump off the green circles in order to successfully pass the bomb back and forth.

4TH LEVEL
From this level, it's going to get harder. You need to avoid some platforms with walls/floors of fire while occasionally passing the bomb back and forth.

5TH LEVEL
This level contains a tank who will chase the player holding the bomb. Just keep passing the bomb back and forth and try to avoid the tank hitting you.

6TH LEVEL
This level contains both walls of fire and moving platforms. Try to cross each platform successfully while passing off the bomb back and forth.

7TH LEVEL - LAST LEVEL
On this final level, you need to avoid walls of electricity, jump onto moving platforms and lastly jump onto the head of the game show host (the Robot Head) and throw the bomb inside its head.

Once you're able to finish the entire gameshow perfectly without the bomb exploding, you should get the achievement after the cutscene.


No worries if you don't get it on the first try. You can try again and again by Restarting the Side Story until you get the achievement.

CHAPTER 3: Hopes of Spring
SUB-CHAPTER 8: Halls of Ice

Solve the Ice Block Puzzle and keep moving forward until you have to climb out the broken window and make your way over the rails and into the Ice King's castle. Eventually, you'll reach another broken window. Grapple inside and you'll see the next side story portal.

CHAPTER 4: Final Dawn
SUB-CHAPTER 4: Toxic Tumblers

When you get to this section of rotating machine parts a.k.a. "Toxic Tumblers", keep moving forward until you see a glowing area straight ahead. Go inside the portal to activate the next side story.

CHAPTER 4: Final Dawn
SUB-CHAPTER 8: Test Chamber

After passing through a lot of red and blue heat shields and moving a lot of platforms, you'll eventually reach this section with a rotating gear in the middle. Ignore the path on the right-side (with the red and blue heat shields) and instead go straight ahead with the red and blue targets.

Shoot down those red and blue targets, keep moving forward and navigate all the moving platforms until you find the side story portal. Go inside the portal.


After the cutscene with the 3 cat spirits running around the moon market, you can play around and interact with a lot of stuff in here.

To get the 1st achievement, near the entrance where you just got in (on the left-side), there's a shop surrounded by many books with a magic wand displayed in the center. You can use this wand and point it to any NPCs or the other player to randomly transform them into different objects.



Use this wand to point it to the other player (doesn't matter if it's Mio, Zoe or vice versa) and keep transforming them until they turn into a chair. Once they turn into a chair, the one who's holding the wand should sit on that chair then you'll get this achievement.


For the 2nd achievement, go to the Potions shop (it's quite easy to find) just right-side of the main entrance. You should follow the recipe board displayed at the shop and drink each potion. These potions will result to some hilarious and weird transformations. Any of the players can do this as long as you need to drink all 6 potions listed in the recipe board.


Once you drank all 6 potions, you'll get this achievement.

CHAPTER 4: Final Dawn
SUB-CHAPTER 12: Soaring Desperados

Eventually you'll get to this section where both characters have jet packs and have to navigate across a big pipe with rotating blades running through it.

You can easily spot the side story from here, located on the left-side of the huge pipe. Avoid the rotating blades and keep pushing through until you reach the side story portal. I think these pipes are easter eggs to the cargo tubes in Alita: Battle Angel while the location looks like Midgar from Final Fantasy VII.

CHAPTER 5: Rise of the Dragon Realm
SUB-CHAPTER 2: Water Temple

After the cutscene where both characters will ride an elevator platform, you'll arrive at the top where you will see two paths: in front (where you can see two golden balls) is the main path while on the left: is the way to the next side story. Go to the left-side first.


Both of characters should ride the moving platform by interacting with the lever so that you can cross to the other side.

Once you have crossed to the other side, one of the players should interact with the lever again (to the platform you have ridden) so you can ride the next platform at the top. Once you interacted with the lever, jump to the cliff, climb the ladder, and wait for the next platform to arrive.

Once the platform has arrived, both characters should interact with the lever so you can cross to the next side.

Once you have crossed to the other side, go to the side story portal.

This side story is kind of inspired from the SSX games from EA Sports.

CHAPTER 5: Rise of the Dragon Realm
SUB-CHAPTER 5: Craft Temple

After defeating the Dragon Slayer boss and exiting the cave, keep moving forward until you see a glowing section to the right-side. You need to cross to the other side to reach the side story portal.

To cross to the other side, Mio should jump to the center platform and glide to cross to the other side. Her glide would be short though and Zoe should hit the "gong with a happy smile" to activate the geyser at the center. Both characters need to time it right.

Once Mio reaches the other side, she can use her dragon's acid breath to break the chains on the right-side. After that, Zoe can roll down and use her dragon to climb up the wall with leaves.

Go inside the side story portal to activate it.

This side story is kind of inspired by Dead Space.

CHAPTER 5: Rise of the Dragon Realm
SUB-CHAPTER 7: Treasure Temple

After reawakening the 4 dragon spirits and riding one of them, you'll reach the Treasure Temple section.

Keep moving forward, pass the purple crystals and right before the golden arch gates (to the right), you'll see a glowing area straight ahead with a gummy bear floating in the middle.

Jump on that gummy bear to reach the 12th and FINAL Side Story portal.



If you have followed everything from the guide, you'll unlock this achievement upon completion to the final side story.


* If there's any side stories you missed, the Bookworms achievement can still be unlocked when you replay some of the stories on CHAPTER SELECT.
