Description

A multirole fighter.
⨴ Comes with multiple loadouts - move the one you want in with Advanced Building and delete the others. See screenshot reel for payloads.
⨴ It's a tail-sitter - to land, pitch up, turn off the engine, and come down with throttle only.
⨴ See the screenshot reel for HUD labels.

❗ I've updated the lore of every other NS vehicle to date and sorted them into generational collections, threading them into a story. Have a look, if you want.

Where Merlins blotted out the sun with numbers, the Balmung - developed with less haste - flew in their shadow to deal real damage to Auraxian emplacements and soldiers. They were rarely seen on the battlefield, striking from afar based on intel from Huginns and Merlins. Where they did appear, it was to deliver a seemingly endless deluge of ordinance against air and ground targets alike.

They also proved more successful at dragging out or even losing Auraxian pursuit - important, since their ability to really hit where it hurt made them priority targets - so successful that there are records of Balmungs being lost to overuse instead of enemy fire.

This vehicle replaces both the Glatisant III and Hresvelgr, which both really sucked at putting the nose on the target and being fast enough to evade incoming fire. It also features significantly more payload capacity than either of them, and a decent autocannon to boot.

- Loadout 1 (air-to-air) is four of Legojack's STRAFE-2 missiles. These utilise proportional guidance via strafing (hence the name).
- Loadout 2 (air-to-surface) is four M34 Howler missiles, derived from Sour's air-to-ground missiles. These sacrifice agility and FoV to better ignore debris, chaff, and other nearby targets.

I also previously built a conventional HTOL fighter jet for the missile boat role, and got to the point of writing promotional material before testing it in MV and finding it completely impractical in a lot of situations thanks to needing enough space and flat ground to launch (and being directional to boot). Surprise. It doesn't help that lore-wise, it also has to be able to land and relaunch quickly, and trying to recover a vehicle this big via parachute is just asking for trouble.

Sunderers are heavy assault craft.
They are designed to dispose of hardened emplacements and large vehicles. They deliver destruction from afar upon bunkers, tank columns, airships, and any other target which is more than a swarm of clearers can handle but not quite enough to justify orbital firepower.
