---BACKGROUND
Japan won the war in 1905 against tsarist Russia and became the dominant power in the area.

This so-called "Mukden Incident" was not a combat sequence (as shown in this game) but a terrorist attack led by a group of extreme-nationalists and bellicists Japanese Imperial Army officers. This bomb attack was organized in order to impose the casus belli to the Japanese public opinion and Japanese "civilian state", in order to justify the invasion and annexion of the (already weaken) Mandchukuo state, in Northern China.

Thus, the historical bomb crater was not the metallic mayhem as shown in the Mission, but a simple hole that broke only one meter of the railway ! This was long enough though to start some large scale humane slaughter !!...

In the 30's, the Republic of China struggles against political divisions and civil war. To defeat the warlords, and to face the Japanese threat, communists (PCC) and the Kuomintang's nationalists (KMT) unite temporarily. The National Revolutionary Army (NRA) will have in 1937 only 8 German-trained infantry division. Germany was not yet allied with Japan at this time.

Six years later (7th of July 1937), the "Marco Polo Bridge incident" will be another false flag operation for Japan to start the second Sino-Japanese War (Beijing seized in August 1937), which would last in Extreme-East Asia until 1945.

The Kuomintang nationalists remained dominant until 1945, when civil war broke.
The Chinese communist party finally won in 1949.

Mukden is the old name of nowadays' Chinese city of Shenyang.

---CONTEXTE
Le Japon avait gagné la guerre en 1905 contre la Russie tsariste et était devenu le pouvoir dominant en Extrême-Orient asiatique.

"L'incident de Mukden" n'était pas un épisode de combat intense (comme montré dans le jeu) mais une attaque terroriste, menée par un groupe d'officiers de l'armée impériale japonaises bellicistes et ultra-nationalistes. Cet attentat a été organisé dans le but d'imposer un casus belli à "l'opinion publique japonaise" et à la "société civile" japonaise, pour justifier l'invasion et l'annexion de l'Etat du Mandchoukouo (déjà affaibli), en Chine septentrionale.

Ainsi, le cratère de bombe n'a jamais été le chaos de débris métalliques tel que visible dans la Mission, mais un simple trou de seulement 1 mètre, sur le rail ! Cette distance a cependant été suffisamment longue pour déclencher un massacre humain à grande échelle !...

Dans les années 30, la République de Chine lutte contre divisions politiques et guerre civile. Pour défaire les seigneurs de guerre, et pour faire face à la menace japonaise, les nationalistes du Kuomintang (KMT) et les communistes (PCC) s'unissent temporairement. L'Armée Nationale Révolutionnaire n'aura en 1937 que 8 divisions entraînées par l'Allemagne, qui n'était pas encore alliée avec le Japon à cette date.

Six ans plus tard (7 Juillet 1937), "l'incident du Pont Marco Polo" sera une autre opération sous fausse bannière, utilisée par le Japon pour déclencher la deuxième guerre sino-japonaise (Pékin prise en août 1937), qui durera en Extrême-Orient asiatique jusqu'en 1945.

Les nationalistes du Kuomintang sont restés dominants jusqu'en 1945, date à laquelle la guerre civile éclata.
Les communistes chinois remportèrent finalement la victoire en 1949.

Mukden est le nom mandchou de la ville chinoise contemporaine de Shenyang.
