The V-17 Assault Shuttle is a heavily modified variant of the M-17 Personnel Shuttle, typically operated by pirate gangs, with few exceptions. Extensively retrofitted for combat operations, it features additional power systems, extra armor plating, automated and fixed weapon systems, improved life support systems, and basic accommodations designed for the void-dwelling lifestyle of pirates.

Favored for its low cost and decent offensive capability, the V-17 is the most common Shuttle-Type Vessel used by pirates across the Empire. Primarily used as an assault or boarding vessel, the V-17 is built to withstand and overwhelm the minimal defensive armaments typical of standard freighters, frequently being deployed in squadrons of three or more to better utilize swarm tactics. Its design prioritizes straight-line speed over maneuverability, allowing it to rapidly close distance with vulnerable targets from unpredictable vectors

However, the V-17’s aggressive modifications come with significant drawbacks. Its lack of maneuverability makes it dangerous to pilot, particularly during high-speed attack runs. Many incidents have been recorded where inexperienced or overzealous pilots lost control mid-assault, resulting in catastrophic collisions with their intended targets. Despite this, the advantage of a cheap, simple to fly and easy to repair combat vessel is too invaluable for a pirate gang to ignore.
