History
Roi-Namur is an island that makes up the northern end of Kwajalein Atoll. Connected by a strip of land and a causeway in the centre, the western half, Roi, contained an airfield with several runways, while the eastern half, Namur, had a big pier and settlements. As the second largest island in the atoll, as well as containing most of the region’s airpower, a large number of Japanese troops would be stationed to defend it.

Marines would land on the southern coast of Roi-Namur on February 1, simultaneously assaulting both ends of the island. The capture of the airfield was relatively quick, with only disordered resistance being confronted. However, issues with communications and thick vegetation would hamper operations on Namur. In addition, Namur housed the majority of Japanese troops and was thus more heavily fortified. The battle would drag on to the following day, concluding by the early afternoon.

An accident occurred on the first day of the battle, after a Marine demolition team threw a satchel charge into a bunker containing torpedoes and bombs. 20 Americans would be killed and a large mushroom cloud would rise from Namur.

With an estimated force of 3,560 soldiers, a majority of the Japanese garrison would be killed, while the US Marines would suffer more than 700 killed or wounded.

Developer Notes
Nice to see you again!
Roi-Namur was a battle that I didn’t know of until doing research into the Battle of Kwajalein. But immediately after seeing images of this battle, I knew straight away that it had great potential for an interesting map!

Roi-Namur is actually one of three maps that I have been working on for a while, focusing on the Marshall Islands campaign. I originally considered doing a double upload with this map and a map based on Kwajalein Island. However, having just started college not that long ago, dev time has been a lot slower than before, and since I wanted to release something, I chose to focus my time on the map that I had made the most progress on.

I had a much clearer picture of how I wanted to tackle this battle, compared with the other two I’m currently working on. There are a lot of really well-detailed maps and photos of Roi-Namur, as well as a depiction from Forgotten Hope 2’s Pacific Event that I could draw inspiration from for level design. I know that one thing people enjoy is large-scale, combined arms maps and that's something I tried to lean into with this one. Along with that, I wanted to add back the trenches from Tarawa and the improved/new prefabs from Makin. In fact, all the designs of the prefabs you see on this map will now be the standard designs for future Pacific War projects going forward!

As I have said, I have two other projects in the works, but both are VERY much still in the early stages of development. It’ll likely take me another few months (summer break maybe) before I come back with something new (as long as things in my life don't change). In the meantime though, I will probably be spending some time supporting this map and making fixes or additions if needed.

Anyways, go hit the enemy hard, right where it hurts! :D

Hello brother, insanely nice map. As a suggestion, if you ever plan on making any more maps for the Pacific Theater in the early part (1941-42) I recommend using the Jap Zero from DAI_QUOC or whatever his username is. It goes really well with Osprey's F4F.
