The Ash County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), established in 1849, is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in California, formed during the California Gold Rush to maintain order in a rapidly growing frontier region. Originally headquartered in Ash City, ACSO served a diverse community of miners, farmers, and settlers drawn to the area by rumors of gold and opportunity. As the county expanded, so did the sheriff’s office, evolving from a small band of deputized citizens into a full-fledged law enforcement agency.

Today, the Ash County Sheriff’s Office is a comprehensive law enforcement agency with over 1,226 sworn officers and numerous specialized units. Under the leadership of Sheriff Greg Greene, ACSO has embraced technological advancements, adopting drone surveillance, data analytics, and predictive policing techniques to ensure a safer community.
