​The Lexington County Sheriff's Department in South Carolina was established in 1806 with the appointment of its first recorded sheriff, Thomas Herbert, who operated alone from the courthouse and jail in Granby, now present-day Cayce. Throughout its history, the department has expanded significantly, now comprising over 500 employees dedicated to serving the county's residents.

​The Lexington County Sheriff's Department (LCSD) actively engages with the community through its Community Action Team, which partners with local businesses, churches, charities, and civic groups to focus on crime prevention, citizen education, and assisting individuals in distress. Additionally, LCSD supports youth development by participating in high school events and hosting internships, providing students with insights into law enforcement careers.
