SNCF Class BB 22200

The BB 22200 is an iconic class of electric locomotives built by Alsthom between 1976 and 1986 for the SNCF. They are the result of combining the BB 7200 and BB 15000 “Nez Cassé” classes, allowing them to operate under two types of electric power supply.

Capable of reaching 160 km/h (99 mph), they can operate across the entire SNCF electrified network, whether for passenger or freight services. Their distinctive design, inspired by the posture of a sprinter in the starting blocks, was meant to symbolize speed. The unique inwardly inclined front windows were designed to reduce reflections and provide better visibility and comfort for the driver.
