🚗 [B42] - Universal Vehicle Key | Hijack the Apocalypse 🛠️

🔓 Adds a rare Universal Key that can unlock any locked vehicle in Build 42!
✅ Lightweight, immersive, and balanced — no overwrites, no cheats, just smart survival tech.


🎯 What It Does
This mod adds a special item — the Universal Vehicle Key — that acts like a master key for vehicles:
  • 🚘 Syncs to nearby locked vehicles
  • 🔑 Lets you open and hotwire them as if you had the real key
  • 🎒 Works from your inventory, bag, or key ring
  • ⚡ Clean and safe: event-driven implementation, no base code overwritten


⚙️ How It Works
  • 🚙 Approach a locked vehicle
  • 🛰️ The key automatically detects and binds to its KeyId
  • 🔓 You can now unlock and interact with the vehicle normally
  • 📌 Key stays bound — until you find another car!

Note: The vehicle must have a valid KeyId for the key to sync. Some vehicles take a moment to generate one — try moving around them if it doesn’t sync immediately.

haven't tried it yet so not sure but would love this as a Admin only tool as well (IE disable normal spawns) For when we get servers ofc

I have hundreds of these in my log file:
"LOG : Lua f:383010, t:1746592375375> [UNIVERSALDOORKEY] Porte detectee mais KeyId invalide (-1)."
I don't speak french, but I can guess. I haven't found a door key yet, I do have like 5 universal vehicle keys though.

@Quilava i had same idea when i saw this mod, something like lockpicing skill or forging, you need tools to take measurements from lock, a template key and file to make a new key(for cars or houses)

May i suggest make the key craftable with certain skill lv require? In case someone have enough bad luck and didnt found any or when you put it in random vehicle and forgot, which is ... my case :sad_seagull:

@Greaska yep, my Dad was a police officer, they do that in case they have to jump quickly into another patrol car and it saves on lost key replacements etc. Now a days they have those special electronic keyfobs but back in the early 2000s and before it was the same key.

Fun fact, all police cars use the same key. Technically this isn't even far fetched as far as like first responder vehicles.
