Operation Ketsugō - Part 1 (Vanilla)

Description
1979, the Soviets are preparing a landing on the island of Hokkaido, Japan.
The Japanese army is unprepared for this eventuality; the surprise is complete.
Leading the coastal forces with a limited army, you must repel the Soviets before they land on the beach.

Ships, vehicles, and locations are historically accurate as much as possible.

Part 2 is available.

Please report any problems you encounter.

This was fun. It was nice not having overwhelming firepower. I messed up my submarine intercept and both ended up behind the enemy group and losing ground. Had the older one make a flank speed banzai charge, shot its two MK37s but they lost the wire late in the run and never came up to search for targets. So it was a wasted approach. Also a 3 inch armed DD is no match for 130mm shore batteries.

Gotcha - I appreciated losing some units as it helped me prioritize survivability over just throwing units at the enemy. The F4s were really fun to play around with - and realized that I would need to take out the Helos fairly quickly. Again, loved it and I'm excited for the next part!

Thank you for your feedback.

It's normal (and intentional) to lose a few units in the logic of the scenario (including Part 2, which will be coming soon).

Regarding the submarines, it was difficult for me to position them coherently. The advice I can give is:
Regarding the Asashio class, send it out quickly enough to intercept the Soviets (perhaps on the surface and at a reasonable speed, then dive at the interception point).

Finally, regarding the Uzushio class, its position normally allows, even at modest speeds, to intercept the Soviets.

The most difficult part is the use of Soviet ASuW assets (helo), which requires good use of the F-4Js

What a great scenario. Pretty tough considering the ASuW units at the disposal of the JMSDF. Felt like a really good balance between the forces. I won the scenario but lost 3 ships doing it, and about 6 F4s. My only point of criticism is that I was barely able to use the submarines - they were simply too far from the action to have any value until after I had won.
