Interesting facts about Joe Biden:

*Entering the Oval Office during a time of political polarization not seen since the Civil War, Joe Biden ran on a campaign to help the United States return to normalcy, counter an increasingly hostile China and Russia, and re-establish the United States as a global leader of democracy and freedom. However, despite his administration’s best efforts, Biden was ultimately unable to overcome a divided Congress, high inflation, and an increasingly bitter public, and ended his presidential career by choosing not to run for re-election in 2024, thus becoming the United State’s most recent one-term president.

Although many right-wing politicians and their supporters portray Biden as a befuddled old man with mental problems who accomplished nothing while in office, that is incorrect, as Biden did achieve some big wins as president:

-Finally ending the United State’s involvement in Afghanistan, bringing an end to the longest-lasting foreign conflict in American history (though most experts - regardless of their political affiliation - agree that it could have been executed better).

-Helping the United States finally get the COVID-19 pandemic under control by mass-distributing vaccines; furthermore, Biden’s administration managed to help the United State’s economy recover from the pandemic faster than any other country in the world (though this success was hampered by high inflation and low consumer confidence).

-Appointed the first African American woman (Ketanji Brown Jackson) to the Supreme Court

-Passing a 1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure act to invest in repairing and upgrading the United State’s bridges, roads, and internet services.

-Passing the Inflation Reduction act, which pledged over 600 billion dollars to help make the United State’s energy systems more renewable and eco-friendly.

-Led the effort to supply weapons and funds to Ukraine, helping them to resist Russia’s invasion in 2022. Had Biden not done this, there is a very real chance that Putin could have conquered Ukraine, or forced the country to accept a peace treaty that would have grossly favored Russia.

*At 78, Biden was the oldest person to ever become president, and the oldest to leave office at 82. During his time in office, his detractors sought to portray him as senile, confused, and having no idea what was going on. This only intensified after his disastrous presidential debate with Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign, with many wondering if Biden was just a puppet being manipulated by those around him. Only time will tell if this was true or not.

*Biden is a huge fan of trains, having commuted between Delaware and Washington DC on them while he was a senator, rather than live in the capital.

*Biden has one of the longest political careers of any president: after serving on the New Castle County Council in Delaware from 1970 to 1972, Biden became one of the youngest senators ever at the age of 29, then served in the Senate for 36 years before becoming Vice President to Barack Obama from 2008 to 2012, and then becoming president himself. In total, his career in politics lasted a whopping 52 years.

*A popular internet meme, ‘Dark Brandon’ emerged during his presidency, which depicts Biden as a smiling warrior with laser eyes who will not stop until all injustice has been destroyed. It become widely spread enough that Biden himself acknowledged it, complete with a video of him drinking from a Dark Brandon coffee mug.
