Description
KNS Lunet is the second ship of Uraeus-class destroyers. The Lunet along with its sister ships the Uraeus and Senet were experimental designs for trialing a host of new systems. Unbeknownst to naval designers of the time, only the 138 mm guns would be deemed worthwhile keeping in the long term. The Lunet and Senet during the early part of their service conducted a series of exercises trialing novel ammunition types for future ships to use.

Due to their relatively large size and bridge, the ships were often used as flagships but otherwise served fairly uneventful careers. They were not deemed good boats due to their poor stability from high top weight. In an attempt to resolve the stability issues, ballasts were added which significantly lowered their freeboard. The class was rendered largely to coastal patrol duties as a result of poor sea keeping.

On May 7th, 2025, Lunet had its ballast tanks removed reversing the earlier decision. The navy had found the ballast tanks to largely be useless in terms of how much the ship rolled, but still lowered the freeboard to a dangerous level. In order to improve the sea keeping, the ballast was removed. However, lessons learned on newer destroyer classes helped inform some of the modernization for the class. The fire control directors were replaced with new lightweight models. The funnel and parts of the upper works were also lightened to reduce top weight. Senet and Lunet received the new lightweight and compact 152mm DPG-15 turret to replace its old over built 152mm gun. The Uraeus did not receive this new gun due to being modernized earlier in April 16. Lunet and Senet also had their propeller shaft replaced and adjusted. The goals of these upgrades were to try and improve overall sea keeping so they can conduct long endurance patrols and operate with the rest of the fleet. These changes allowed the ships to reattain their original 45 knots top speed.
Lunet alongside Uraeus and Senet formed the 1st Patrol Group and is intended to bolster the 'Interception Force' if necessary for fleet action.
