Halo Charon-class Light Frigate

The Charon-class light frigate is an escort vessel manufactured by SinoViet Heavy Machinery, formerly operated by both the Colonial Military Administration (CMA) and the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) Navy. Ships of this class were primarily assigned to fleet escort operations, planetary defense, and the landing and deployment of mobile infantry units via their dedicated troop bays.

The Charon-class first saw combat during the Insurrection, and later became one of the first ship types to encounter the Covenant during the battle over Harvest. Upon engaging a Rasus-pattern interdictor, the CMA Arabia and CMA Vostok were swiftly destroyed by the enemy vessel’s powerful plasma lances, while the CMA Hercules barely escaped to UEG-controlled space. Throughout the Human-Covenant War, Charon-class frigates played an enduring role, with vessels like the Forward Unto Dawn and Aegis Fate earning distinction during the Battle of the Ark. The class continued service into the Post-War era, including action during the Created Conflict, albeit in increasingly limited numbers.

This ship is by far one of my favorites. The shape is the most distinct among Bungie-era ships, with the bridge placed higher and a thickened midsection to accommodate the troop bay. The paint job wasn’t the best, but I tried some new techniques with it. The hardest part was working with shadows—due to the ship’s size, it was tough to bring out the details I wanted. And if you ask me how to use it: pair it with the Paris and Stalwart classes to serve as a resupply ship, since it’s got a good-sized cargo bay for its size.
