CAS: Vanilla Armour Expanded

Description
Camouflage and Stealth for Vanilla Armour Expanded

Mod details

This mod combines the functionality of Camouflage and Stealth with the fantastic armor designs of Vanilla Armour Expanded. Credit to the creators of both of those mods for their fantastic work, I'm just the guy bringing them together. Obviously both CAS and VAE are required for this mod to function.

This mod provides new FUNCTIONAL camo patterns for several armor sets from Vanilla Armour Expanded:

Trooper Armor and Siegebreaker Armor:

SIX camos in unique patterns for each armor set in Arctic, Desert, Jungle, Stone, Urban, and Woodland patterns/palettes. I tried to pick camo patterns that matched the tech levels of these armors to reflect their futuristic, sleek designs. Each armor set got its own patterns, so the 'woodland' Trooper is different from the 'woodland' Siegebreaker, etc.

Riot Armor

Three camo patterns in stone, urban, and woodland. This set got fewer patterns because these are clearly themed around police-style or paramilitary armor; Police generally don't have much need for actual camouflage, but there's real-world precident for it and they looked neat so I went for it. These camo patterns are very 'contemporary' to match the style of the armor.

Ghillie Suits

The existing VAE Ghillie Suit has been patched to provide camouflage functionality for 'woodland' environments. Five new ghillie suits have been added to compliment the existing VAE ghillie for the remaining biome palettes of arctic, desert, jungle, stone, and urban. I really really wanted to use things like bin bags or metal slag chunks for the urban set and stone chunks for the stone set, but the effort to create the custom graphics was already pretty high and I didn't want to add tons of extra work for myself so they're just color changes of the other ghillie suits.

Mod Notes
I would recommend starting a new game with CAS as opposed to adding it to a save game, and with mods that add content associated with it. To remove the mod I would expect initial errors on subsequent loads that will subside.

While not a dependency per se, I highly recommend something like Camera+ that will let you zoom in much closer to see the armor much better.

Incompatibilities
CE / CE:FT been informed that CE uses it's own line of sight and detection mechanics when shooting etc. So this mod will be incompatible with CE as a result.

@Victor and @Sly those are both from other mods and would require their own mod to implement; I have no plans to include those at this time but won't rule out future possibility.

@Andy I don't use CE so I have no plan to offer a 'texture only' mod at this point, but like the others I won't rule out future possibility. I don't know how much workbench spam those mods might already have so I don't know how messy things would get by adding another couple dozen skins just for aesthetic purposes. I know that CE uses its own line of sight mechanics and would have no idea how to utilize their sight/camo in any way.

hey love the mod, just wondering if you're gonna patch in military uniforms, jackets and berets from vanilla apparel expanded as well?

Hey brother I love this set of mods - really awesome. Is it possible to include the Privateer armour as well?

The original mod author put a pdf on github that explains some things that might give you the info you're looking for https://raw.githubusercontent.com/emipa606/CamouflageandStealth/main/Source/CamouflageAndStealthNotes.pdf

Peryn, those are questions more for the mod author who wrote the original "Camouflage And Stealth" base mod. I didn't dive into the C# coding or decompile .dll files. I know that the camo does make pawns harder to hit, yes. I cannot say exactly how much. There is a visible camo indicator on the pawn cards in the bottom left, but I don't know if the % camo of a given pawn means that there is a same % chance that any shot will miss.

The color of the texture itself doesn't matter much for the screen - what are the game parameters?
I don't mind all-white armor, but only if it gives me a reduced radius of visibility for the enemy :)

Can you tell us more about the effect of camouflage? Is it harder to hit a person? Is its visibility reduced when it is inactive?
Does the camouflage disappear completely when the character is activated?
Vanilla stealth only applies to animals, if I'm not mistaken.
