“Chenglu” is a modernist villa infused with the natural beauty of wood and touches of Zen philosophy. The name combines “Cheng” (orange), reflecting the primary architectural hue, and “Lu” (foot of the mountain), expressing the design philosophy of symbiosis between humans and nature, and a lifestyle of seclusion amidst the mountains.

Inspired by the textures of mountain terrains, the villa extracts natural elements such as rocks, woods, and morning light, integrating them into a modern architectural vocabulary. The structure adopts exposed timber beams and large floor-to-ceiling glass panels, creating a light, transparent spatial experience while blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The sloped roof echoes the contours of the surrounding mountain ridges, and the abundant use of orange-toned wood enhances the warmth of the space and gives the architecture its unique identity within the forest landscape.

The ground floor features an open-plan layout where corridors formed by timber columns seamlessly connect the living, dining, and leisure areas, offering uninterrupted views and an expansive sense of space. A sunken living area introduces spatial layering and social interaction opportunities. The upper floor houses an open bedroom and an enclosed structure, maximizing natural lighting while preserving privacy. The double-height, fully timber-clad ceiling, with its orderly, layered orange beams, symbolizes the rhythmic flow of forest branches and leaves, creating a balanced yet dynamic spatial cadence. High windows and fence-like partitions both define boundaries and frame outdoor views, crafting a living environment where inside and outside, motion and stillness, coexist harmoniously.

The overall spatial experience pursues the philosophy of “blank space” and the interplay of solid and void, allowing residents to experience infinite changes of light, shadow, and emotional freedom within a finite structural framework.
