KNS Lacus DD8-35

The KNS Lacus is a modified Adyl-class destroyer commonly considered a subclass grouped with its sister ship, KNS Inebu. The Lacus design was a competing design to expanding the Solaventus after the navy announced an expansion to a fleet of 36 destroyers for supporting up to four naval fleets. Originally the navy wanted to expand the Uriel and Solaventus class destroyers, however their relatively poor stability made an expanded Adyl-class more attractive. The Adyl-class was slightly cheaper, more stable of a firing platform, but also slower with dated armament systems. The outdated Alguhas depth charge throwers were considered an advantage. They could be removed and replaced with other weapon systems, potentially bringing it to comparable capabilities as the Uriel class. Although a tight fit, the main armament and the rear Alguhas launcher was replaced with the new twin 152 mm gun turrets. This dramatically improved its firepower. The forward Alguhas launcher was also replaced with the 45 mm AAG-11. The AAG-11 has a reputation as a decent rapid fire anti-aircraft gun albeit too expensive for its role. While the torpedo armament remained relatively light, the navy hoped it would be a better anti-air destroyer due to its numerous guns.

The subclass was projected to be made of 12 ships. Once the Sivantse-class was expanded however, it was cut down to 9 ships. Once the Lacus was completed, the navy found its performance lacking and so the class was then further cut down to just 2 ships. The two ships, Lacus and Inebu was envisioned to be assigned with the existing KNS Adyl due to their similar top speed.
