Description
this was on hold for months, i was reluctant to post this, since it's still not perfect and polished, but oh well

i know that manacat already does this, but I want to make my own version

Description
original sourcemod plugin[forums.alliedmods.net], recoded by harry potter[github.com] (somehow deleted right after I posted this), ported to vscript by me.

Witch will try to retarget other survivors instead of sticking to one target and run away.

Notes and Features:
  • Witch will retarget if:
    1. The witch successfully kills or incapacitates a survivor.
    2. The witch's target ledge-hanged themselves.
    3. The witch's target is incapacitated or died from another source.
    4. The witch's target entered a checkpoint.
  • The witch cannot retarget to a survivor that is standing in a checkpoint area.
  • This script doesn't retarget the witch by fake-biling or igniting the witch.
  • You might notice that the sitting witch squats for a split second before retargeting, that's because I am still resetting her AI, it needs a delay before she can attack.
  • The witch theme will reset when retargeting.

  • Include configurable settings, see the pinned discussion for more information.
  • This script is not perfect, there's a small rare bugs which I don't think are fixable, it involves retargeting the witch using bile and fire.
  • Only works on local/dedicated servers.

If you somehow encounter a crash while using this
cl_forcepreload 1
Try changing cl_forcepreload convar to 1, either from your autoexec or console.
Other than that, I don't know any other ways to help you, this is why it's still in beta, still have no idea what's causing it.

I haven't tried it myself, but if you use this on a 100 tick server, you will most likely crash.

Fun fact, this was actually planned by the official developers in L4D1 as said in the L4D1 Developer Commentary, but it would make the Witch overpowered than the Tank. So they did the usual Witch we know today.

Just found this out when playing the Developer Commentary.

Well, in part, I can rest easy knowing that the only mod I have, other than the "NIGHTMARE" mod, isn't a problem for me.
Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on your mod and waiting for the final version without any problems.

1. I am not sure about that, but since it is only a sound add-on, you'll mostly be fine, the problem mostly lies on the vscripts.

2. I actually tested the add-ons mentioned by @yoru a long time ago prior to this release, and I never encountered any crash after like 10 playthroughs, keep it mind that I tested my scripts completely modless and default settings, as well as my own style (my game is mostly vanilla anyways, other than low end settings), so the scripts on modpack are the red flags, I doubt that he runs his game in vanilla.

I can't think of anything else other than just finding the add-on culprit as I checked this script regularly.

I don't know if you're referring to my comment, but I have two questions:
1. Regarding the "NIGHTMARE" mod, I only have one called "NIGHTMARE Common Infected Sounds (REUPLOAD)", and this is the only mod related to the NIGHTMARE mod that I have, so I ask:
Do you think I'll have any problems if I have that mod on my L4D2?

2. There was a comment early on when you posted your mod from someone called @yoru, and this person said there's a problem when changing survivor skins with other skins (even if the cl_forcepreload command is enabled, the game crashes). This person based his comment on the fact that he uses skins he's never had problems with, and when he deactivates them, he no longer has problems. (But that doesn't mean that you've been using skins for a while and they're the problem, even though you didn't have them before.)
To which I ask: Do you know how to solve this?

Kind of a late reply but I most likely found the particular problem with the crash judging by the comments, I don't think I can find anything related to the crash anymore, other than c++ source code of the vscript functions.

However if you are running a server with heavy scripts, such as the nightmare mod pack, then you'll be prone to it.
It's a great mod, but I'll wait until it's not in beta.
It's better to be safe than sorry if the game crashes or malfunctions (and I don't mean that in a bad way).
If you're playing the game and you're halfway through the game, after having made progress and worked hard, the game crashes, well... I'll pass on that.
But I'll keep an eye on this mod.
