Scanner Screenshots

Description
A script born in a single night out of "I bet this is doable, and it's funny."

"Scanner screenshots" is an addon that makes it so whenever Combine Scanners take photographs they take actual screenshots of what they're targeting.

The images taken are stored in garrysmod\garrysmod\data\cscanners\.

Images can also be viewed ingame using an in-game photo viewer accessed via the console command scannerscreenshots_gallery

Convars
  • cl_scannerphotos_enabled 0/1 -- Enable/Disable the mod from taking screenshots.
  • cl_scannerphotos_quality 1-100 (defaulted at 90): How close to uncompressed the saved jpg file should be.
  • cl_scannerphotos_dimensions 16-1024 (defaulted at 512): The resolution of the screenshots.
  • cl_scannerphotos_debug 0/1 -- When set to 1 the script will print to the console whenever & whatever a scanner is taking a screenshot of.
  • cl_scannerphotos_saveraw 0/1 -- Enable/Disable saving raw captures
  • cl_scannerphotos_savefiltered 0/1 -- Enable/Disavle saving filtered captures

This also supports claw (shield) scanners, and it's supposed to support ceiling cameras as well, but their detection method seems to escape glua logic so those currently don't work -- but may some day if sounds from them get emitted by them and not the world.

I'm sure this has been said before, but you should make it (if possible) that either in this mod or another mod that Manhacks record videos while they're active. I think it'd be really cool :3

Yeah,I saw your comments about unable to hide the flash I was not asking about that, I am pretty sure adjustable delay before the capture will reduce the amount of produced images with solid white color. It's still going to fade out eventually, is it not? It's capturing it's own flash in 8 out of 10 shots.

As said countless times here in the comments, this is due to the white flash on the screen of the scanner drawing in all render contexts. This is a shared material used for many effects and for that reason I can't just simply hide it, and it's long fadeout from scanners means a delay isn't feasible.

Great idea, but most of the captures are white image for me. Maybe you can try to add another convar with adjustable delay between the flash and a capture? Or exposure setting.
