Analysis of wreckage has shown an extremely compact design while providing relatively low cost and good speed has left the craft lacking in several capabilities seen on similar fighters, such as flares or decoys. Strike Hawks have also been observed to have a rather small fuel tank, making it difficult for the craft to operate over long distances or in prolonged engagements without carrier support.
