Description
Version 1.8

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH RISING TIDE

A mod that introduces Affinity progression for the Explorer unit, with a focus on surviving sustained alien attacks and becoming a mobile raiding unit, without making it effective in combat against combat-dedicated units.

TO-DO list:
  • Re-texture unit for the non-Affinity upgrade.

Progression paths for each Affinity:
  • Pre-Affinity
    +30% defense against ranged / 20HP damage to enemy units on death / +10% per unused movement
  • Harmony 1
    +30% to scatter attacked unit / 20HP damage to enemy units on death
  • Purity 1
    Can move after attacking / improved pillaging
  • Supremacy 1
    Ignore zones of control when moving / +20% against wounded units
  • Harmony 2
    +50% to scatter attacked unit / automatically heal every turn
  • Purity 2
    +40% against aliens / automatically heal every turn
  • Supremacy 2
    Force enemy unit to retreat if Explorer wins combat / automatically heal every turn

I cannot seem to be able to pillage tiles with the advanced explorer.

Vangard, have you tried disabling all other mods and seeing if you still get the problem (in a new game)?

@Walkabout: not really, I don't see them as combat-focused units so EXP made little sense.

Having the same problem Goatroach had. I have no other mods that affect explorers (not even adding movement). Goatroach, dod you ever find a workaround or fix?

Great idea and the units look good. Pretty hard to improve on the smexy default setup but it's much nicer to have variety.

Have you considered adding EXP and veterancy promotions to explorers? I want to play campaigns as just a single explorer supporting an AI faction. But, I haven't got a clue how to make them receive xp. Others have already succeeded in expanding veterancy options (though the one I'm using has a conflict with this mod).

The only one that may possibly affect it is the mod that adds 1 aditional movement to explorers (the highest rated of those mods). None of the mods alter afinity, promotions, or anything that seems like it would interfere with this mod.

Pretty sure that isn't an issue with this mod. Bear in mind I haven't really tested compatibility with other mods - what other mods are you using?

This mod is broken. I can't progress to the next turn because the game thinks my explorer can be upgraded, but I have 0 afinity in every path, so I can't upgrade. See SCREENSHOT .

Model edits are beyond me at the moment, but I do plan on upgrading the rover's textures too at some point :) Been distracted recently!

nice idea
An idea for improvement also i dont know how to design it. Change the rover to also represent the affinity. F.e an alien beast as pack animal for Harmony, a hovercraft for purity and a walker/ robo donkey for supremacy.
Also maybe switch supremacy 1 and purity 1, but that is just my opinion.

solo´ed a siege worm yesterday with an explorer on the fourth level...probably its a bit imba but..its fun :)
