Starry Rainbow Grove - v1.1

Description
Map Pitch :
An eerie, brightly colored minigolf hidden in a magic forest.

Features :
  • 18 holes with a easy/medium difficulty level.
  • Lots of lights! Not recommended if your machine can't run Golf it with decent 80-90 FPS on a more barebones map.
  • Eagle or better is always possible on every hole (except hole 1, which is a par 2)
  • With the general difficulty, scoring a birdie is usually easy, but scoring hole in one is often just impossible on par 4+ holes.
  • While this is mostly a "core minigolf" experience, it's not a realistic course either, with boosters, events that move the ball, a "racing" section, and even a few "keypress triggers"
  • Features a few secret shortcuts, though it's not the focus of the map
  • Hole 18 is a surprise. expect something different!
  • Music : "Forest Sage" by Peritune, "Rainbow Road SNES remix" by Bryan EL
  • Uses 3D models shared in workshop by ekomanic, and a few i did myself

My Comments :

First map created with a friend! Multiplayer map editor is buggy for a bunch of things, but we managed to outmanoeuver those problems by working on what worked together, and I finilized the most complex triggers, terrain, and basically everything that wasn't working in multiplayer editor on my side after our building sessions. And it worked great!

Used this opportunity to experiment for the first time with the new "keypress" events. But I didn't want to overdo it so they only appear on 2 holes. In the end, the map is a compilation of random ideas from me and my friend with no real theme/recurring mechanic gameplay wise. The theme was in the visuals, with this idea of a "magic rainbow forest", which was doable with Golf It base assets, while being a relatively unique take on those assets, that we don't see often in other maps.

If you find problems in the map, don't hesitate to report them and I'll fix them whenever I can.
Have fun!

Changelog :
  • v1.01 and 1.02 : Fixed small problems with play areas, modified hole 4 to be less frustrating. Improved visual on "rock tower". Slowed down "moving hole" on hole 8 a little bit.
  • 1.1 : Leveraging a new feature, camera now faces right direction after the short "cinematic" on hole 18. Adjusted several holes to avoid unfair situations/out of bounds that could occur when hitting ball from certain positions/angles. Hole 11 made simpler with an initial jump that helps "clear two river crossings at once" more consistently (which is part of the intended strategy for scoring eagle).

@Demonstrata : this is weird. I tested that part a lot, and nothing remotely like what you're describing ever happened. So to have any chance of fixing this bug that appears to be fairly specific, I would need to have more information on it.
Have you changed any settings for the map? And, if possible, could you share a screenshot or a video capture of that "same place" you always get your ball stuck at?
Instructions on "how to reproduce the bug" would also be useful, if you can identify a surefire way to trigger it on your side, please tell it to me, or capture it in that video as well.
I know I'm asking a bit of work from you here, but with the amount of info I have so far, I have no idea of how I could potentially fix this machine/config specific bug, as I simply cannot make it happen on my side somehow.

Thanks for the feedback communication, that's great!

An Angelineer, the issue with 17 is 1) I couldn't tell where to hit the ball. OnceI realised it was a river ride... every time I did it the ball ended up sinking to the bottom and getting stuck, then forcing a reset. And it got stuck in the same place each time.I never saw the end of the hole

@Ryz : I know about this camera thing. but sadly, there is no solution in the current version of Golf It.
I sometimes go to the devs discord server and a solution to this problem should be coming next patch. But i have no idea when said patch will be coming.

Played the golf course once more, and played golf hole 4, it's definitely more normal now and there's no respawning when the golf ball is on the flat side of the U-turn. Definite favorite given for this map, yay! Now I can strongly recommend this with other people and friends about it.

The only thing I can think of further improve on is golf hole 18, where after being shown the instructions, the camera isn't oriented to face towards the intended path the golf balls are supposed to go to. Wonder if there's a way to make it happen with the editor, or if you have to move those associated parts of golf hole 18 to make it happen. I don't really have that much of a problem when playing it the first time, although it might be an odd brief skill gate to have to rotate the camera to the correct viewpoint, but other people could be disoriented briefly if playing it for the first time.

@Ryz : Oh, right. it was "Demonstrata" who had an issue with hole 17, my bad.
Anyways, i tweaked hole 4 a bit further. That bit of rock protruding at the top was making the turn harder to take, and while there was a trick to dodge it, I get that it was probably frustrating for people who didn't figure it out, so I removed it. Hole 4 is a much more "normal" U-turn now :)

Played it recently, and regarding golf hole 4's fix, yeah, it seems the ball can slip into the golf hole easier now. As for the U-turn, the ball respawning back to the previous position still persists. Based on what you said map creator, I think it would be better to just put a wooden sign board and text indicating that it's a hole-in-one to set expectations. For me, I find it much more difficult than the other holes in this custom map with my current skills and setup. Managed to hole-in-one twice from 20-30 attempts in practice mode. I normally would just use the flat areas of the U-turn as a crutch.

For hole 17, had no problems finishing it. I just have the golf ball into the water and see it flow towards the wooden barrier and waited for the platform to raise up and tilt it for the golf ball to roll downward to the next part of the golf hole. Played in single player and not with other people, and played it with capable hardware.

@Ryz : Made a quick hotfix of that issue. Even added little walls to reduce probability of "being near the hole but not going in". Sure, you won't go back to start anymore when that happens, but but if you take the turn succesfully, you're kind of meant to go in the hole automatically. So now the intended result should happen more as well

@Demonstata : The wrong reset at "hole near the 15th" was fixed. (Hole 13, actually). It was a mistake from my friend who has less experience with editor, and forgot to change the "play area number" there.
I have trouble, however, understanding the problem you describe with hole 17 correctly. ...Are you talking about the river and/or the elevator that gets you out of the water? I'd like to understand so I can try to hotfix this problem as well, if I can.

@IjustWonLIFE24 : I love you too ;)

Thanks guys for your feedback and bug reports. Hopefully you can have even more fun with the map now. :D

i love you more than i love golf it itself. this is the best map i have ever played in my life hands down i love you so so much

Update: checked with my friends about hole 17. It was what I thought it was supposed to be. It's kind of broken though. Every time I hit the ball it floated to the same place and sank to the bottom and reset
