Description
WSS Upgrade System is a mod for Project Zomboid that allows players to upgrade and modify the stats of any weapon. The system includes:

  • Intuitive interface to view and modify weapon stats
  • Probability system based on resources and skills
  • Extended skill system up to level 20 for the WeaponModding skill
  • Full compatibility with any weapon
  • Ability to rename weapons

How to Use

Required tools:
  • Hammer (in primary hand)
  • Blowtorch (in secondary hand)
  • Welding mask equipped

Materials usable for upgrades:
  • Metal Sheet (20% base chance)
  • Metal Tube (10% base chance)
  • Metal Bar (5% base chance)
  • Small Metal Sheet (5% base chance)
  • Nail (0% base chance)

You can choose different upgrade levels, with success chance penalties based on the multiplier:

Success Chance

Factors that influence the chance of success:

  • The material used for the upgrade
  • Weapon Modding level (+3% per level)
  • Presence of the anvil
  • Selected multiplier

Steps to use the system

  • Build a workbench
  • (Optional) Build an upgrade anvil and place it on the bench
  • Interact with the bench with the required tools
  • Drag a weapon and materials to the interface
  • Select the stat to upgrade and the desired multiplier
  • Click "Modify Stat" to attempt the upgrade

Extended Skill System



  • Levels 1-10: normal Weapon Modding skill
  • Levels 11-20: extended skill with greater benefits
  • XP is earned based on successful upgrades

Included Skill Books
The mod includes all 10 volumes of Weapon Modding skill books, each corresponding to a level range.
These books work like in the base game: they grant an XP multiplier when read. Volumes 6 to 10 are part of the extended system.

Beta Version Notice

Some features of the mod are still under development. Upcoming features and fixes:

  • Multiplier arrows for levels 11-20 of Weapon Modding (multiplier works, UI is incomplete)
  • Firearm magazine modification
  • Custom tooltips for Weapon Modding books (volumes 6-9)
  • Tooltip to show compatible materials
  • Character traits related to Weapon Modding
  • Bug fixes (still in testing phase)
  • Stat calibration: max and min values
  • Sandbox options
  • Some weapons may break if you set their maxCondition value too high. You can fix the weapon, but it's annoying

it doesn`t appear errorcode but when re joined the game, weapon conditions change.

I am unable to interact with the Craft Upgrade Anvil.
I held the hammer in my primary hand and the blowtorch in my secondary hand, wearing the Welding mask already.

@七夜向日葵 Oh, now I understand. I'm definitely going to add a handicap system for the enhancements, and your suggestion makes sense — it's definitely one good way to approach it. Also, I think this mod could easily disrupt the PvP system (which I don't use, but many others do), so I'm planning a way to tone it down there as well.

Then, add a weapon enhancement protection scroll to the world to prevent the weapon from being damaged after the weapon enhancement fails.

After a weapon is enhanced by +10, each +1 enhancement has a chance to damage the weapon. For example, if you want to enhance a weapon by +11, there is a 20% chance of damaging the weapon from +10 to +11, and a 40% chance of damaging the weapon from +11 to +12. However, each successful enhancement can increase the weapon's power by 2-3 times.
