USS Enterprise (CVN-65)

Here is the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), the 8th ship in the Navy carry the name Enterprise.

She is was the first nuclear powered carrier ever built, and currently the longest carrier ever built. Early in her career, she took part in the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. In 1969, she suffered a fire after a rocket from one of her aircraft exploded. The incident killed 27 of her crew and was repaired at Pearl Harbor. She would spend the rest of career conducting operations in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf Wars. After over 50 years of service, she was deactivated in 2012 to be partially scrapped to remove her reactors. Once her reactors were removed, she was officially decommissioned in 2017, with scrapping still ongoing. Efforts were made to make her a museum, but none ever materialized due to costs. Currently, a new carrier (CVN-80) is under construction that will carry the name Enterprise and is scheduled to be finished by 2029.
