Royal Australian Navy S-70B-2 Seahawk

the S-70B-2 was introduced into RAN service in 1988 for anti-submarine and surface warfare roles, replacing the Wessex and operating alongside the Sea King. Equipped with Mk46 torpedoes, maritime radar and a tail-boom mounted Magnetic Anomaly Detector, the S-70B-2 operated from Australian frigates and destroyers which enhanced their long range ASW capability. This versatile helicopter served in the RAN all the way up until 2017, leading to the next generation in the MH-60R 'Romeo' which started coming into service to replace it in 2014.

In this mod, the Cold War-era version is represented with its historic sensor suite and the Australian designed AN/SSQ-81B Barra passive sonobuoy. Also featured is a bit of a 'what-if' modernised 2000's variant fitted with the same dipping sonar on the SH-60F and modern American sonobuoys which were considered in a potential upgrade but not pursued.

1. Standard 1980's-early 1990's Cold War era - complete with MEL Super Searcher surface search radar, AN/SSQ-81B Barra passive sonobuoys, tail-boom mounted Magnetic Anomaly Detector and Mk46 torpedoes. Seahawks sent in for Gulf War service were equipped with the AN/AAQ-16 FLIR and RWR and so has been added to this variant. The Penguin AShM was trialled but not equipped historically, but has been included for gameplay purposes to give some versatility.
   
   
2. 'What-if' 2000's variant - The MEL Super Searcher has been upgraded to represent the digital upgrades the helicopter did get later in its service career, but this variant has the dipping sonar added which was not installed historically. The American SSQ-53 sonobuoys were considered as an actual upgrade possibility over the less capable Barra, but not acquired as the eventual upgrade to a new helicopter would bring newer capabilities. The SSQ-53D and SSQ-62C sonobouys have been included in this variant to make it a truly deadly hunter-killer.
