Dune: Atreides Armour & Weapon Pack

Description

A second instalment in our series of mods bringing the world of Dune to our favourite game.

While you can read the origins of our modpack’s idea in the Harkonnen Pack's description, we want to talk more about the improvements we've made and what can you expect in the future.

Firstly, the most important thing: balance. Just like with the graphics, we do our best to make weapons and armour not only balanced, but also relevant to the Houses' style: picking the right weapon types and tweaking the armour stats to make sure they fit the House we're working on. This makes every House balanced, with their special expertise in one niche (long-range, mid-range, close quarters combat, etc.) and their unique weak points.

This approach to balance, however, will inevitably change with the release of Dune Core. We expect a complete rehaul of all stats and bonuses by the release of our Core mod, in major part due to the addition of Dune-canon shield mechanics.

So, a disclaimer: don't get attached to the current balance, it will change in the future.

Thanks to an extremely warm reception of our first Pack and the attention we got not only from the players, but from the modding community as well, we were able to expand our team and streamline the work on the mods.

This came with a downside of increased production costs, which is being partially compensated by your support, but has a long way to covering all of the expenses. Any support is greatly appreciated and directly influences the speed and quality of our next modpacks.

Cheers and happy war crimes!

With rising production speed and quality, expenses rise as well. If the first modpack was made without deadlines and actual stable workflow, now it’s a bit different.

When we first showed you our roadmap, it was more of a dream than a plan. And now we’re proving to both you and ourselves that we can deliver, even outperforming our deadlines.

As I’m writing this and as we’ve uploaded this pack, the work on Fremen Pack has already started, and the work on Dune Core, our game mechanics mod that brings canon-accurate shield mechanics, Spice, Bene Gesserit powers and, of course, the Shai-Hulud, has been in the works for about a month.

We are extremely excited to follow up on our plans and bring more Dune to Rimworld with each passing day.

However, saying the hard part out loud, we now depend on your support.

If you enjoy what we’re doing and would like to see the rest of the roadmap done in the highest quality possible - please consider supporting us. It makes the world of difference for us.

Thanks for even considering it, and thanks for reading this text. Somewhere in the world, an overly expressive copywriter sheds a tear.

Q: Can I add this mod to an existing save?
A: Yes, you also can easily remove it mid-game.

Q: Is it compatible with Combat Extended?
A: Well, we waited for this one. It is CE compatible!

Q: Is it compatible with A,B,C.?
A: Yes, mod should not cause any troubles since it’s just adds new armour and weapons

Q: Will you update this mod?
A: Yes, we will update it and apply various balance changes along the way. We’re just getting started.

Q: Will you be doing other houses and mechanics?
A: Absolutely yes! See our roadmap and read more in “Support” section.

Q: X doesn’t match lore of Dune in A,B,C.
A: We do our best to make it as close to lore as possible, at the same time making it fun to play the game. There are also some technical complications with implementing certain features (like lore-accurate shields) and we’re also working on clearing that out over time.

So I know you have the roadmap but do you think you might tackle all the factions in Dune Spice Wars?

Love the mod, Its a lot of fun. I think the Warden armour need rebalancing though, with 1.6 Cataphract armour now has a Move Speed of -0.50 (compared to the old -0.8) which makes the Warden armour with -0.9 Move Speed an awful choice, could do with going to -0.6? Thanks for the mod and looking forward to the next dune mods.

It's a great mod. I'm still looking forward to seeing these dynasties as factions.

@Fruchtgummi, it’s not so vacuum resistant, since the original armour from which we took inspiration - has not airtight helmet.

But Harkonnens have very space like helmets, thus it’s a disadvantage for Atreides soldier helmet.

But it’s easy to fix if you will use Ranger helmet, which looks more space-friendly

Amazing to finally have some more dune content in Rimworld! I've found an issue regarding the peacekeeper: it shows up as "assault rifle" and has pretty low armor penetration, which is the opposite of the description.
Fruchtgummi 17 Jul @ 11:45am
I don't know if it's intended but the Atreides Soldier Armor set has only 15% vacuum resistance from the suit because the helmet has literally none. The helmet of the Harkonnen equivalent though has 60% making the entire set's vacuum resistance 75% compared to the measly 15% of the Atreides one. If this is intended (I don't have anything to do with Dune but I love the quality of your mods), what are the chances to maybe rethink that? 15% vacuum resistance might as well be nothing for gameplay purposes after all. Thank you for the work, no matter the answer though : )
