Better Combat Log

Description
-- ATTENTION ---
This mod needs DFHack to be installed. You can simply get it here (https://steamhost.cn/app/2346660/DFHack__Dwarf_Fortress_Modding_Engine/)

Overview
What a glorious battle, my brothers! We struck this forgotten beast down with the blink of an eye! What? How our master didn't understand what happened? Everything is in the log, just show it to him! He could read it as a report after the battle. What do you mean it is not useful?

Always wanted to know how the battle is going right in the process, but not reading it after? Do you want to look at your dwarfs jumping here and there, but understand what's going on?
Then this mod is for you!
It provides a separate window of combat logs of the selected unit.

What this mod is offering to you:

  • The overlay on the Unit View screen that will open the Better Combat Logs window.
  • A separate window with combat logs. The colors of logs are kept as they are in the game.
  • The possibility to pause the game every N logs so you won't miss anything.
  • You will be notified when the unit dies. This notification will contain the name of the killer and how exactly the selected unit died.
  • The window is resizable and can be moved anywhere you like. By default, it's attached to the bottom right corner.

Future plans
  • Add information about the current status of the unit (e.g., bleeding, unconscious, etc.)
  • Add 'Log Screen' mode, when logs are collected from anyone on the screen, and you can select a particular unit to watch.
  • Add the possibility to see combat logs of a dead unit.
  • Resize the text when the window is resized.

Q&A

Q: Can I enable this mod in the existing save?
A: Sure thing, it will be automatically activated when you install/subscribe.

Q: I see that some lines are separated by some gap between them. Is it possible to remove it?
A: No, it's not :( It is the limitation by the DFHack. You can set the height of every row in the list, but not individually. The maximum log that I saw could be fitted in the 2 rows, so I hope it will be enough.

@Devil Zil Maker That could be possible, I think
Let me try to check it lately, maybe I can create something at least like this for adv mode

@RebOOter Thank you for your time. Maybe it's possible to make a window for adventure mode with sorting (for example, by color or something like that), without searching for units, what do you think?

The new update 1.1.0 is here!

1. Added the possibility to see sparring logs.
2. Added indication of who the opponent of the watchable unit is.
3. Added the possibility to see combat logs of the dead unit. Works with any parts/corpses. Even if there are no logs, it will show the death reason.
4. Enlarged the log window a little bit.
5. Fixed issue when two rows weren't enough for one log.

@Devil Zil Maker I checked the possibility of adapting the mod to the adventure mode, and there's no way I can do it in the same manner as the original mod is :(
There's simply no connection between the particular unit and the report, as it is in fortress mode. I can create the same window that will accumulate all reports of the logs that are appearing during the battle, but I believe it's not so cool as it could be

Got it! No problem, I'll try to do my best to adapt it to the adventure mode, but after I finish with the thing I currently working :stein:

Adventure mode has the same log as fortress mode. I liked the way you indented the text (I would appreciate it if you would work on the adventure mode version of the mod)
RebOOter  [author] 27 Jun @ 8:44am
@Devil Zil Maker should not, because there's a restriction for Forte mode only
But in adventure mode log is already better or not?
I can check it later if there's request for adventure mode

Work in adventure mode?
