Description
Science fiction has always included various ship designs. One of those, is a "Monitor" style ship, close to the coastal defense ships of todays blue water navy. This mod adds a method of having something similar.

Adds the Monitor Class Drive, a new FTL drive component. While it has a significantly slower FTL travel time compared to the other drives (about 2/3rds of an ingame year regardless of tech improvements), it comes with a 50% decrease to ship upkeep costs when docked at a station.

While the original removed the FTL ability of its drive, mine readds it. Allowing for easier usage, as it will allow you to use shipyards elsewhere in your empire. While allowing you to slowly move or upgrade the Monitor ships as you improve in tech. Without needing to build additional stations. Additionally, while the original had a blanket 50% decrease in ship upkeep, the 4.0 version of stellaris seemed to have had this modifier removed. Hence why its been replaced with a decrease to upkeep when docked.

What about a new unique “resource” based concept? A new resource for example: ADF (Autonomous Defense Fleets) with which you can get ships for the home territory via Edict/event?

@parciwel, No, as doing so would require me to make a new ship size for every ship the game, not including any mods one may run (Like NSC3, which works by default). I'm pondering on other things to do with it to make it more worthwhile to use. although imo being able to have effectively "free" upkeep garrison ships is pretty nice if they are placed on the borders

Does this change the ships size (used fleet capacity)? As just having reduced upkeep doesn't seem like it is enough of an enticement.

@greatswizard - While the stations are nice, ships equipped with the monitor drive are still ships and can move between systems, allowing for more flexibility in where you place your stations. Along with any relevant tech increases that you pick up for your more "Offensive" fleets.

The original purpose was to update the original mod to 4.0. I have some other ideas to make them more viable compared to the station changes. Primarily in giving buffs while in home territory.

I like the idea behind it. owever, considering the rework to defense and bigger starbases mods we have today, idk how usefull this mod is.
