Description

A polymath of the high renaissance - Leonardo da Vinci was a master ahead of his time in engineering, science, art, and anything else he put his mind to.

Invent technological marvels before their time: bringing steam cannons and wheellocks into Antiquity, and bringing steam tanks and ornithopters into Exploration.

Follow a unique civic tree that mimics the tech three of the next era, unlocking buildings, bonuses, and units unique to Leonardo. In the modern age, gain unique great works of art from da Vinci's career.

FEATURES
  • New Leader: Adds a new leader with a large repertoire of unique features - but at the cost of spending culture to unlock them via his unique civic tree.
  • Unique Civic Tree: Leonardo's unique civics tree mimics the tech tree of the next era, unlocking miniature/prototype versions of the next era's bonuses.
  • Unique Units: Prototype units from before their time. Steam cannons bring the terror of cannon-fire to Antiquity. Ornithopters explore the New World from the skies in Exploration. Plus many more!
  • Unique Buildings: Create centres of learning, early hubs of industry, and marvels of architecture, with Leonardo's buildings: from
  • Narrative Storyline: A full complement of narrative events, including a leader story. Lead a nation through the lens of the eclectic humanist philosophy of Leonardo da Vinci.
  • 3D Character: An animated 3D model representing da Vinci. [Currently a placeholder until better tools for modifying models and adding animations etc become available]
    • Thanks to Izica who discovered a way to replace leader models! Make sure to install their leader model changer in order to use this mod.
  • Mementos: Three mementos themed after da Vinci, including La Gioconda, the Ornithopter, and the Codex Atlanticus.
    • Important: Mementos are fiddly at the moment without full mod support from Firaxis. To unlock the mementos, start a game as da Vinci, then return to the main menu to start a new game, and the mementos should be available! Let me know any issues you encounter with this, as that'll help us understand what works and why, and maybe find better implementations.

MEMENTO EFFECTS
  • La Gioconda: +2 Influence per age for every Leader you are Friendly or Helpful with.
  • Ornithopter: +1 Sight on Army Commanders. Army Commanders gain the Mobility promotion for free.
  • Codex Atlanticus: Gain a boost to the earliest available Civic when you spend an Attribute Point on the Scientific Attribute tree. Gain a boost to the earliest available Tech when you spend an Attribute Point on the Cultural Attribute tree.

FEEDBACK AREAS
  • Balance: There's a lot of moving parts in this one. On the one hand, da Vinci has no bonuses at the start of each era, and has to spend culture in his unique tree to unlock anything - possibly at the expense of important priorities on the main tree, or your Civ's unique tree. On the other hand, if you do unlock all his civics, there is a largenumber of bonuses available.
    • My Advice: The most valuable features in Antiquity and Exploration are front-loaded at the start of his civics tree. It's important to get those, and much of the rest of the tree is fun flavourful 'win more' bonuses, and act more as a payoff for if your culture generation is high enough to have eked most of the value out of the main trees already.
    • Alternatively: The unique civics essentially come at the expense of progressing culture altogether. They mean going all-in on science, because in Antiquity and Exploration they give bonuses more similar to Techs, and often provide boosts to science and production.
Any other issues you encounter please let me know asap and I can include it in a future update!

no, it's available on the workshop and is a requirement for all my leader mods.
this will be what was causing all your issues. sorry if it wasn't clear enough: the mods should be linked on steam.
get it here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3506937618

I don't have Izica's Leader Model Changer - is that only available through CivMods?
mattwho  [author] 24 Jul @ 1:37pm
game-affecting mods like new leaders aren't compatible with save games that don't use the mod.
only reason you wouldn't be able to enable/disable mods is if there are dependencies. do you have izica's leader model changer?
are you sure there isn't another mod you have forgotten to re-install that could be preventing loading an old save? even if it doesnt tell you which you're missing, when viewing the save game in the 'load game' menu, it should give you a list of additional content you had enabled. comb through that.

I have issues installing any of your leaders (though your civs work fine). If I install a leader though, suddenly I can't enable/disable any other mods, if I save a modded game I can no longer load it, but the material does seem to show up in game correctly when I'm playing it - it's just the save that is corrupted. When loading the save, it tells me that I'm missing mods, though doesn't specify which ones.

the da vinci civics vary by age! the things you unlock are based on da vinci's inventions, but have stats that fit the era you're in.
they stretch plausibility in places, but all leader abilities do (in what sense did isabella make natural wonders better?) - and for example a steam cannon was also designed by archimedes!
one day maybe i'll give the units aesthetics more appropriate for the era, but for now we can only use existing models from the game, so the only option is to use the exploration age models as-is for the prototype units.

A really great mod, but the fact that we can do the "leonardo da vinci civics" in the antiquity isn't realistic or fun.

It makes Civ VII feel like Civ again!!!!

Thank You

Fixed the problem, the issue was the mod that reassigns favored civs for leaders-- that was trying to reference the Himiko and Ashoka personas that I don't have.

hi! noone else has had this issue. the mementos cause foreign key reports to appear in the database log, but these do not prevent the game from starting.
what other mods are you running, and what other errors are appearing in the database log?
TheDanMan051 24 Jun @ 8:00pm
Your leader mods, while neat in concept, render it impossible to start/load games and cause a foreign key constraint failure to be displayed in the database log.
