Nubi

Description
You'd best start believing in Haunted Houses, lad. You're in one.

Nubi returns from the depths of the haunted house to the Rivals of Aether workshop as a playable fighter! Earn your rent money utilizing attacks ripped straight from the early concepts of the game he was supposed to star in! Hooray!

Backstory
Nubi Nematode had it all. Starring in a franchise of early 3D platformer video games in the late 90's, he lived lavishly. That was, until the console wars started, and his IP was given the short end of the proverbial stick. His games stopped being made. His series was hijacked by annoying side-characters created purely for marketing. He was only allowed to appear in barely self-aware cameos where he did nothing but acknowledge how obscure he was, and worst of all, the holders of his IP refused to sell him to a new company. His franchise was dead, and he had no curtain call. Forced to move on, Nubi scraped by working as a mall cop for many years, watching as his name faded further and further into obscurity, until one day, he received a letter. A note from a neighbor he didn't know he had, promising a small fortune in return for a week of housekeeping at their obscenely haunted house. With that, Nubi found his second wind, starting a new chapter in his life as an amateur ghost hunter!

Breakdown
Nubi is a Trapper fighter, a form of Zoner with a heavy emphasis on clever setups. Up close he's quite wimpy and light, but most of his normal attacks are very disjointed and outrange a lot of what other fighters are capable of, so he's best at a comfortable distance. Ontop of this, his tricky supply of traps and projectiles give him access to a dangerous array of setups and techniques he can perform, keeping himself out of his enemy's range before they're pushed into one of his traps.

Down Special
Mantrap

A supply of conveniently oversized beartraps. Nubi can place one down and it'll trigger when anyone passes over it, snapping shut and giving an opportunity for a followup attack. These traps also interact with his other specials in different ways, giving them a surprising amount of utility.

Down Special 2
Broom Sweep

If a trap is already out (or if you're in the air), Nubi will instead sweep the ground with a broom. If you sweep over a trap, it'll slide across the ground. The aerial version does not push traps around, but it does have a light spike hitbox if you're interested in gimping poor recoveries with it.

Down Air
Nubi Bounce

As his aerial down special functions more as a traditional down air, his actual down air is a dangerous but risky attack. A maneuver he used to pull in his prime, Nubi slams downwards after an acrobatic twirl, bouncing off of the enemy he lands on. If he hits the ground, however, he'll be left vulnerable for a time. Landing on a Mantrap will bounce it straight upwards.
The spin he does is also part of the attack, and can confirm into the slam if done precisely enough. You can also cancel the attack after the twirl ends if you hit an enemy with it by airdodging.

Neutral Special
EVP Reader

The most useful tool for any up-and-coming ghost hunter. Hold to charge up to throw the EVP Reader forwards, and steer it around with your movement keys (or stick) as it flies. Press your special button/key again to detonate a harmful blast of sound. While useful as a general long-range harassment tool, you can also use the detonation to send your Mantrap tumbling around, launching it in the opposite direction of the EVP Reader relative to itself - or, straight up if they're close enough together.

Side Special
Silver Arrows

A hunting bow he looted from his neighbor, loaded with a bottomless quiver of silver arrows, perfect for dealing with any ghosts, ghouls, cryptids or otherwise roaming your property. You can hold down the button to delay the shot, but you can't charge the shots like with the EVP Reader. You can also hold up or down to aim the arrows slightly. If an arrow lands on a trap, it'll trigger it, knocking it away.

Up Special
Super Nubi Jump

Nubi's iconic special move from his games, although he's lost his mojo over the years. Tap special for a wimpy shorthop that, while not going far, doesn't put you in pratfall. Hold special and Nubi will grab a key and do the move at full strength, sending him straight up and putting him in pratfall. Both variations of this move knock his Mantrap around if they're hit by it, sending more horizontally for the former and more vertically for the latter.

Closing Thoughts
This is my first Rivals fighter in a long while, and the first of (hopefully) many stupid OC mods based on the characters from my stories/games/whatnot. If you want tot see more of the things I make:
