Description
Replaces the Icons for multiple Civs.

Great Britain

The crown is generic, and doesn't really symbolise anything uniquely British. There are plenty of monarchies in the world, and the European ones use similar crowns.

I replace the crown with a portcullis, an iconic and uniquely British symbol that fits the identity of Britain in the modern age.

French Empire

The French Empire civ is explicitly based on an amalgamation of the Napoleonic French Empire, and the French Republic(s) - primarily the Third.

None of these were particularly fond of the Ancien Régime, and explicitly avoided using the Fleur-de-Lys ever since the Revolution.

A civ based on post-Revolutionary France should not use the Fleur.

I replace the Fleur with a Gallic Rooster, as this symbol remained popular as a representation of France through both its Imperial and Republican periods.

Greece

Outside of Civ, the letter omega has no precedent as a symbol for Greece. The Greece civ is clearly inspired almost exclusively by Athens and Athenian democracy.

I replace the omega with an Athenian Owl.

Bulgaria

The Madara Rider is an iconic relief that has appeared on some modern Bulgarian coinage. It's an unusual choice for an Exploration Age Bulgaria, though, given that the Bulgarian Empire had its own established flags and heraldry.

I replace the Madara Rider with the stylised letter Ш (sha), as depicted on purported flags of the Shishman Dynasty of Bulgaria.

America

They reused the Civ 6 rendition of the American coat of arms. There's no huge problem, but stylistically it doesn't fit in with the aesthetic of Civ 7's other icons. Civ 7's icons are generally more detailed and 'realistic' emblems, rather than cartoonish stylisations.

I replace the Shield with the circle of Stars from the original US flag.

Maurya

Similar deal to America - not an awful choice of symbol, but the rendering is quite simplistic compared to most of Civ 7's symbols. It feels like a stylistic odd-one-out.

I replace the Lotus with a Chakra, as depicted on Mauryan stamped coinage, and reminiscent of Ring Stones and radial motifs found throughout Mauryan culture, and associated with the edicts and pillars of Ashoka. It is still depicted on the flag of India to this day in the form of the Ashoka Chakra.

Assyria

Whilst reliefs depicting archers in a similar style to Firaxis' icon do exist, it's an odd choice for an emblem. I'm not aware of it being historically used in this way, and it has an asymmetric composition that looks bad in-game.

Lamassu was an incredibly important symbol in Assyrian culture, depicted prominently on many of their most important buildings, as well as jewellery and metalwork.
