Hi Guys, I'm Back With Another Map, Sorry I've Been Gone For A While It's Just I Was Just Focusing On My Main Happy Fun Life And All That.

Ashtola, Texas:
Ashtola, Texas Is A Small Community Located In Western Donley County, Texas, Approximately 9 Miles Northwest Of Clarendon.

History:
Established In 1906 As A Railway Section House, Ashtola Was Initially Named Southard And Schoolhouse. The Name Was Changed To Ashtola In 1916. Ashtola Served Local Ranches And By 1930 Had Grown To 3 Stores, A Brick School, And An Estimated Population Of 25. A Home Demonstration Club, Later Known As The Ashtola Needle Club, Was Organized By Local Women. With The Rise Of Automobiles, A Filing Station And Gristmill Opened, Operating Until 1973. The Ashtola Post Office Closed In 1956. The School District Consolidated With Clarendon In 1958, And The School Building Was Converted Into A Community Center. Population Estimates For Ashtola Have Varied, Peaking At 50 Between 1949 And 1966 And Being Estimated At 25 In 2000. The Former School Building, Used As A Community Center, Was Destroyed By Fire In 2018.

Transportation:
US Highway 287, Approximately 9 Miles Northwest Of Clarendon In Western Donley County, U.S. Highway 287 Is A Major Highway That Runs Through The Texas Panhandle. The BNSF Red River Subdivision Also Runs Through The Community, Often Seeing Regular Manifest Trains And Other. There's Also A Siding Here, That Allows Trains To Pass Each Other Safely.

The 2002 Clarendon Train Collision:
On May 28, 2002, A Head-On Collision Between A BNSF Coal Train And Intermodal Train Occurred Near Clarendon, Texas Near Ashtola Siding. All Four Crew Members (Two On Each Train), Jumped Before Impact, The Engineer Of The Intermodal Train Was Fatally Injured And Died, While The Other Three Sustained Injuries Ranging From Critical To Minor. The NTSB's Investigation Revealed That The Primary Cause Was The Coal Train Engineer's Use Of A Cell Phone And Failure To Follow The Track Warrant, With The Lack Of Positive Train Control System Also Being A Contributing Factor. The Collision Caused A Fire And Significant Damage To Equipment, With Total Damages Exceeding $8 Million.
