The North Myrtle Beach Police Department (NMBPD) was formed shortly after the city’s incorporation in 1968, combining the law enforcement needs of several small beach communities into one agency. Originally focused on traffic and beach patrols, the department has since expanded to include specialized units such as K-9, marine patrol, investigations, and community services to meet the demands of a growing coastal city.

In January 2023, Dana Crowell became the department’s first female police chief, reflecting the agency’s evolving leadership. Today, NMBPD continues its commitment to public safety and community involvement, honoring its fallen officers and adapting to the needs of both year-round residents and seasonal visitors.
