The Ash County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), established in 1849, is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in California, formed during the California Gold Rush to maintain order in a rapidly growing frontier region. Originally headquartered in Ash City, ACSO served a diverse community of miners, farmers, and settlers drawn to the area by rumors of gold and opportunity.
