The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) was established in 1931 to provide statewide traffic enforcement and promote road safety during the rise of automobile travel. Starting with just over 50 officers, the Patrol focused on enforcing motor vehicle laws and reducing accidents across Missouri’s growing highway system.

Today, it operates as one of the most professional state police agencies in the country, utilizing advanced training, aviation support, and forensic services to serve and protect Missouri’s residents.
