Tanis

In 1 collection by Stone Cold Jane Austen
Homeworld 2 Ambience
6 items
Description
Skybox originally uploaded by Seuss, with light settings modified to add appropriately-coloured sun, back and ambient light, and remove fog.
Sun angle and overall brightness are the same as default, with ambient light 75% of default, and backlight 25%.

To use with a speed mod, list the speed mod before the skybox in your world's mod list. If the speed mod is correctly made, it will work.

"Deep inside the Great Derelict at Tanis, construction of a new Mothership is underway, the 'Pride of Hiigara'."

Yeah I was finding that site and the info. See, I play Star Wars Armada and I want to print it out on a 6'x3' mat to play Armada on. >.>

Here's a bit of technical detail on why the Homeworld 2 skyboxes were so gorgeous:

The cleanest way would be to get the highest-res version you can from in Homeworld 2. The Space Engineers skybox is a raster image but in Homeworld 2 it's a 3d mesh.

You can extract the skybox texture from SE if you want, but I don't know how well it will work, as it's in the form of a cube map, so is probably not neatly aligned for printing, and you may have to do some geometric correction:

It is incredibly hard finding a 'clean' version of this background image. Is there a way to extract the background to take to the printers so I can poster it up? Or is it more of a 'load the game, turn off the UI, and take a screenshot at the highest res your computer can handle' situation.

There's a problem with the way the light adaptation works in DX11 - it's backwards. Going into dark areas makes your vision go dark, going outside (to space) makes everything go bright. Thus lighter-coloured skyboxes look washed out and terrible.

I hope Keen fix this but it's been broken for an age.

this skybox is very bright for some reason, do you need to do something to the game settings or something?
