TQ-Retold

Description
TQ-Retold at its core aims to overhaul and balance many systems of the base game to improve upon build diversity and overall player options. This is a "Bounce-Mod".

The mod is still very much work in progress.
Your feedback will be much appreciated and helps to iterate and develop TQ-Retold further.

A brief rundown of what this mod changes (v0.3.0)
  • Removal of (hopefully) all damage type immunities. Enemies which used to be immune to one damage type are now still resistant to it. See Changelog for further information.
  • New features: New shrine mechanic called "Shrine of Challenge", which replaces bleed retaliation shrines from act 2 normal onwards and spawns in a hard and rewarding group of enemies to fight. These enemies are based upon enemies found in their respective acts and per act there is a pool of 5 different enemy groups with various drops like Epic/Legendary items, Monster Infrequents, Relics/Charms, Formulas or even Respec Potions. Also introduced a new shrine called "Shrine of Riches", which replaces health restoring shrines and grants a respectable amount of gold, which scales with the players level among other things.
  • Mastery tweaks: Overhaul of many existing abilities and passives, introduced a bunch of new skills, buffed niche and underperforming stuff, but also nerfed overperforming abilities. New niche abilities to introduce extra possibilities of building and min-maxing your character.
  • Core mechanics rebalance: Health and energy regeneration tweaks with increased potion cooldowns to combat potion spam, 4 skill points per level, increased monster health scaling, racial defense reduction, etc.
  • Monster Infrequent rebalance: Many items were overshadowed by just a few MI’s. Underused MI's were buffed to make them desirable for certain builds. No nerfs for strong MI‘s though, since „chase items“ are always fun.
  • Epic and Legendary items overhaul: Basically the same thing as with the MI’s, but also tweaked a few existing set bonuses and added some new ones.
  • 158 new epic and legendary items with various custom skills (for now “only” armor pieces, shields, rings and amulets… weapons will follow soon™).
  • Smarter item affixes: Rebalanced the affix weights to make less desirable ones less common (like energy, reduced requirements on weapons, strength on staves, etc.), while also improving those mods numerically. Throwing weapon affix pool has been reworked to no longer use the same affixes as axes and many more small changes. Addition of almost 100 entirely new affixes to grant more options when building your character.
  • Artifact rebalance in the same vein as the MI changes. Also adjusted many artifact skills / abilities in order to make them more relevant. Every Artifact has its own new pool of thematic completion bonuses.
  • Charms and Relics are of course also overhauled. Changed many completion bonuses and added a lot of new ones as well.
  • Miscellaneous: Animation changes to help with the flow of combat, broken items have been removed, MI's now display their affixes and have a drop sound similar to epic and legendary items, bosses have a greater chance of wielding epic or legendary weapons, camera is fully zoomed out when starting the game and many other small tweaks.
  • Optional XMAX map: 3x normal enemy spawns (bosses not included as this breaks some quests) and experience penalty of 55% to make it somewhat balanced. This is still ~165% experience compared to vanilla.
  • Lots of Bugfixes: Making unobtainable items obtainable, fixing broken stats on items, etc.

What am I currently working on?
  • Adjustment to loot containers such as bosschests so they are more rewarding
  • New skills and balance pass on existing/newly added ones
  • Playtesting and balance

What will this mod possibly entail in the future?
  • New Epic / Legendary / MI Items
  • New Relics and Charms
  • New Atlantis Artifacts
  • Even more new skills
  • More custom skill icons
  • Introduction of Keystones (one-pointer passive skills, with an build-around upside and downside)
  • Further adjustment of MI drop rates (some are absurdly rare. Imo you should be able to farm the base MI you want within a couple of hours at most)
  • Adjustment to the epic / legendary reforging system from the „Legendary Craftmanship“ quest
  • Better visual effects for custom skills
  • Adjust loot containers such as boss chests to be more rewarding

How to install

Simply subscribe to this mod and launch your game.
Under "Play Custom Quests" you will find the "tqretold ~ tqretold.map".
(or "tqretold_xmax ~ tqretold_xmax.map" if you want to play the xmax version)
Run it and it will bounce you back to your main campaign.
It is advised to create a new character.
If you want to use an existing character, be sure to make a back up first.

BEWARE:
Playing a modded character without TQ-Retold, might result in missing skillpoints and items. Unfortunately newly introduced items such as epics and legendaries will get deleted if the character is loaded in without TQ-Retold! These items will also get deleted if they are in the "Transfer Area" of your stash when you load in a character without the mod!

Compatibility
  • DLC's might not be needed when playing TQ-Retold. This is untested as of now.
  • Steam Achievements are still fully functional.
  • Multiplayer works. All connected players need the same version of TQ-Retold.
  • TQVault is semi functional. Textures and descriptions of newly added or changed items are missing so it is really awkward to use. As far as i know nothing gets deleted or "corrupted". Use at your own risk.

Stuff I need feedback on

Should the Enslave Spirit skill be removed in favor of a Summon Skeleton skill?

Big appreciation for the mod.
I found a semi working way to use TQVault by importing my char to custom and setting TQVault to the custom map. At least shows your items etc properly while its loaded.

@hedgehoglock57 By stacking lots and lots of + to skills gear. Atm there is no specific + to Unbound Energy modifier i think.

@Divinityy
How can you overcap Unbound Energy from Storm Mastery by 16 points? Did you add extra items for the skill? I couldn't find anything in the changelog.

@Divinityy
Thank you. I have read it and am looking forward to further “to-do” changes! Please keep up the good work!

@hedgehoglock57 TQVault is semi-functional as described in the "Compatibility" section.
Any changes i have made can be read up in the liked google doc! Simply Ctrl+F and search for it. But in short: No i haven't changed anything with the Icescale gear.

Hi,
Love the Mod. Thanks for that. Rightous Fire BayBay! Did Someone test it yet? What second mastery work as best for an RF Build?

Is it possible to make the mod work with TQ Vault?
hedgehoglock57 12 Aug @ 12:22pm
That's awesome!! You've made a fantastic mod. I currently prefer your mod to Grim Dawn and TQ 2, and that says it all! :-)

@hedgehoglock57
1. Yes if you have the proper weapon type equipped (sword, axe, bow, spear or throwing weapon)
2. No
3. Yes to both since Blade Honing now has a pet modifier as well. Also requires you to have the matching weapon type.
4. Yes to all of them.
