Restore Engine Quality [B42]

Description
Restore your vehicle's engine quality with a Wrench, Spare Engine Parts, and Mechanical skill 4+

Unlike vanilla engine condition (which affects durability), engine quality determines starting reliability, power output, and cold weather performance. This mod lets you restore quality from any percentage up to 100%.

Why Use This Mod?
  • Have you ever found a great military vehicle, but its engine quality is completely ruined?
  • Have you already repaired and fully upgraded a car for long trips, but starting the engine still requires minutes of attempts?
  • Then this mod is for you - restore the engine to its day-one state, just like it was set from the factory.

Key Features
  • Engine Quality Restoration: Improve quality from any percentage up to 100%
  • Skill-Based Mechanics: Higher Mechanics skill = better quality increases per iteration (just like vanilla engine repairing[pzwiki.net] works)
  • Configurable Resource Cost: Adjust engine parts consumption multiplier in Menu -> Options -> Mods -> Restore Engine Quality (1-5 per restoration, default: 2)

How to Use
  • Requirements: Wrench, Spare Engine Parts, appropriate Mechanics skill level (4+)
  • Access: Right-click vehicle Engine → Restore Engine Quality (the same context menu where "Repair Engine" located)
  • Process: Each restoration consumes engine parts and improves quality based on your skill

Resource Cost
By default, requires 2x more Spare Engine Parts than regular engine repair (making it more challenging but not grindy). You can adjust this multiplier in mod options from 1x (same as repair) to 5x (very expensive).

Engine Quality Effects
  • Starting Reliability: Lower quality = higher chance to fail starting
  • Engine Power: Higher quality = more horsepower and performance
  • Cold Weather Starting: Quality ≤65% struggles in cold weather

Requirements

The percentage each (2) engine parts restore depends on your mechanics skill and car type (modded vehicles can use their own required mechanics level).

For example, at level 10 mechanics, 50 spare engine parts will restore a standard car's engine quality from 0% to 100%.

Based on your Mechanics level, each 2 Spare Engine Parts will restore 1-5% Engine Quality.

Motivation
Inspired by Easy Engine Rebuild (B41 only), but fully developed from scratch as a new mod with a focus on a lore-friendly way to restore the engine.

Unlike Easy Engine Rebuild, this mod gives you the ability to restore the engine iteratively, similar to how vanilla engine repair works.

Compatibility
  • Build 42.10+
  • Safe to add/remove mid-game
  • Works with all vanilla vehicles
  • Works with Vehicle Repair Overhaul, AutoMechanics and other popular mechanics mods
  • Works with KI5, Autotsar vehicles, and should work with most other vehicle mods as well

@Special Week pro-aborto Thank you for the idea and the tip on how it could be properly translated!
I’ll be adding Spanish language support along with some other widely used languages, and will create a discussion page listing all the words that need translation (including those used in the tooltip).

@Andrew DC In the near term, I don’t plan to make it compatible with B41, since there’s already a popular mod for that version which achieves a similar result of fully restoring engine quality, with the only difference being the restoration process – Easy Engine Rebuild .

I’d rather focus on keeping this one stable for B42.

This is a neat mod! I was worried it wouldn't work with KI5 mods, but it looks like its good. I just found out my vehicle has pretty bad vehicle engine quality(42), so getting that up with this mod is handy. I'mma try this out right now!

If you want to translate it to Spanish (works for both variations):
Restore engine quality→ Restaurar calidad del motor

I don't know if there are more lines to be translated, let me know if that's the case
