Description
A blazing, scorching-hot Volcanic world, Altenhaft has long since puzzled biologists and explorers from both the Beta and Human factions that have ventured out to this distant, seemingly inhospitable ball of lava and roaring flame.

Despite its incredibly hot environment, centered around a huge Volcano providing endless amounts of geo-thermal energy, Altenhaft is inhabited by both plant and animal life of primitive, fungal and primordial nature. Many believe it to be a Terran world in-the-making, and thus the war is brought forth with each faction fighting for dominion and the vast, rich minerals and crystals exposed in abundance by the rampant volcanic activity.

- Map is fully AI compatible. For best results, try Weatherall, Lambert or Alhazen personalities.

- - -

A close-quarters 4 player / FFA map, designed for intense combat within the opening minutes, but can also be played defensively by fortifying your initial plateau and cliff-edged area. Be wary of Goo hiding upon the raised caldera of rocks and pillars, whilst contesting the additional Catalyst Crystal-Fields within the lower central region, centred around the huge Volcano.

Most cliffs and rocks are traversible by Goo, but obviously it cannot pass through Lava. The central brush provides cover from air units when moving towards an opponents base, whilst even Human players are capable of expanding Conduits beyond their ramps at great risk of the power-link being broken by enemy attack.

I had fun making this map!

The map works great with AI opponents set to Weatherall or, even more so, Alhazen.

Its great fun to create new tilesets and work with the environment to build something not seen in default Grey Goo. There is plenty of ambient sound and visual effects, including the lava, ash and smoke - so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did in creating it!

Yeah Szalami played against AI on it. He was playing on several custom maps today which is great for us map makers. :)

Really? Folks are playing custom maps in competitive / twitch streams and the like?

Is there an archive link or replay of said games? Now Im actually curious.

Thanks too. I had a lot of fun making this map. Many fond memories of environments like Blackrock Mountains, Redridge and other volcanic fantasy 'hellscapes'.

Saw someone recently play this one on a twitch stream. The resource pools are some of the coolest I've seen to date. Nice lighting. Well done. I really like it.
