Customized/able Vocalizer

Description
A modified version of Doktor Haus' Vocalizer. Credit to him for basically everything in this mod. I've edited, fixed, and otherwise added vocalizations to my liking, and hope you like it too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION
  • 1. Subscribe to download, and make sure to disable other vocalizers.

Optional video guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGu4HR2OnZQ or up in the image list
Or....follow the below along with the video. After video skip to step 5.

Step 2 and 3 may be skipped by simply downloading the text file from pastebin, as long as you know to change it to a CFG filetype, and rename it to vocalizer.cfg. However, any file name will work, as long as the launch options match. i.e.; "testfile.cfg" for the config folder, and "+exec testfile.cfg" in launch options. Always make sure the file ends up in the "Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg" folder.
  • 2. Copy the text under "RAW Paste data" from the [RAW] button at the top, here: http://pastebin.com/7739iNyC
Right click --> Select All --> Copy.

  • 3. Create a new text document in notepad. Paste all of the copied pastebin text into the text document. Click "File" at the upper left, then "Save As". Name the file you are about to save "vocalizer.cfg", without the quotation marks. Under "Save as Type", change it to "All Files". Save it at the below directory. (or wherever your game is installed)

  • C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg

  • 4. Type +exec vocalizer.cfg into your Steam Launch Options for the game. (Also works without .cfg at the end)
Example look of launch options: -novid +exec vocalizer.cfg -high

  • 5. Bind your keys as you like in-game "Options ---> keyboard/mouse ---> Edit Keys"

  • 6. Enjoy, and be sure to select the Survivor you're playing as with the Survivor Picker hotkey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mod uses a keybinding menu. Use this menu to set your keys for the mod. Just make sure to set them all to get the full function out of the mod.

***Other notes***
Since a game update on 2/21/2017, configuration files may no longer be loaded from ".vpk" files. Now we must create the config file in the game "cfg" folder.

NOTE FOR THOSE WHOSE BINDS RESET EVERY TIME L4D2 STARTS
  • Make sure any config files such as "autoexec.cfg" in your 'cfg' folder don't have any of the binds you want to use set as something else. This will cause your binds to change every game start, possibly more often. Typing exec vocalizer in console will typically fix this, though it might be temporary.
The below are my personal keybinds. Should you choose to use them, make sure nothing else is occupying those keys so you don't run into issues. If these keys are convenient for you, I would also recommend using them.
  • F1 - Look, Hurry, etc.
  • F2 - Laugh, Grumble, etc.
  • F3 - Help, Choking, etc.
  • F4 - Survivor-specific
  • F5 - Survivor-specific
  • F6 - Survivor-specific
  • F7 - Survivor-specific
  • F8 - Miscellaneus.
  • F9 - Infected Calls, etc.
  • F10 - Survivor Picker
  • Z - Random, funny, useful.
  • X - Random, funny, useful.
  • V - Random, funny, useful.
  • B - More random funny commands.

The mod itself should mostly work for all characters, but I've still yet to fix all of it. They changed quite a few things in an update last year that messed up basically all vocalizers. I have to find where each new voice file is a re-point every one to their new appropriate place. In other words, it is a lot of work.

There might be a new repository with the updated stuff online now, but I just haven't looked into that part just yet. Sorry about that, for those who like this mod. L4D2 just hasn't been the most important thing to me lately.
