Description
How many Washingtonians does it take to build a traffic circle? Trick question -- Washington has never built a proper traffic circle. In Washington, DC, these structures are artistic representations of the futility of government: like this circle, government could be efficient, but simply chooses not to be. The RL version includes traffic lights, so if you're a sporting type you should add them in when you get the chance. Perfect for any sadist, place this in a peaceful neighbourhood and watch mayhem ensue.

I take it SOMEONE commutes/used to commute though 20016 fairly regularly then? ;) I used to drive through Ward Circle fairly often years ago. It's not the WORST of the circles (that honor, I believe, goes to Columbus "Circle"), but it's not nearly as good as Dupont, Washington, or Scott Circle.

Happened when visiting DC. Another fun incident was during rush hour, where we got the light into the circle, but it was backed up by the time we got to the other end (it was more rectangular I think?) so we're in gridlock and in the way of the cross traffic that just got a green light. Weird herd/mob mentality where they all start gunning towards us honking all the way, like we can help we're trapped in the intersection. They stopped short, but fuck that shit.

That was over 15 years ago, and I think I've visited DC maybe 10 times since, but only drove in the city twice. Metro from Greenbelt is the only way I go in there if I can help it.

@OrdinaryPanda If you live in DC long enough Ward Circle will eventually try and kill you.

@auandi DC probably has the worst traffic circles in the world. It's the only city I know of that not only has traffic lights to get into the circle but traffic lights within the circle. Granted, Ward Circle is probably one of the better circles in DC, but the interior mini-oval is just bizarre and (I think) unique.

Yeah, there are probably some good circles in DC. But they work well enough that they don't stick in my head.

Hey I almost died at this intersection. I was going around the circle part, and someone came within 2 feet of slamming into my driver side while going through the part that cuts through the circle. Fuck DC.

While not the usual, Ward Circle I think actually performs quite well and if you don't just hate it cause it's different it's actually very logical. There are also many perfictly proper traffic circles in DC, just not in the white areas of town so a lot of people don't notice.
