April 23rd

Shields will now repel other ships. Currently the logic is attached to the sensor block. That is, if you have a sensor block on your ship it will magically have shielding. If there is interest in how these shields work I will consider improving the mod so that shields have a dedicated block and require power. I am not aware of a way to make the shields visible with the modding API.

This mod was originally published as a debugging test but due to the interest generated I will begin developing it.

Phase one is to implement shields which repel other ships, mitigating damaging collisions. To my knowledge it is not possible with the current modding API to find missiles and detonate them, or to find bullets and delete (absorb) them, so these desirable additions will have to be considered at a later date.

please make this a cool mod. with what you said, shields that have a dedicated block and require power. would be cool. also if you have diffrent "shield" sizes and angels, watch this vid and you will now what im talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3epnbTT-K0U

Can you not just draw from another model? Perhaps build the functionality into an antenna?

I do not know how to make models, but if someone donates one to this mod I will put it in. This mod is in an experimental stage -- I would not expect it to be enjoyable to use for regular gameplay. Some modding API limitations blocked me from finishing this mod in the way I envisioned. I am happy to see this many people interested. This weekend I will take another look to see how I can improve the mod.

Please, PLEASE, make a custom block for the shields, I don't care if it has the same model as something else, it gets annoying to not be able to blow up cargo ships anymore.

this can now work with the recent modding api update, you can edit damage done and capture the events

This is an intriguing mod - some things that might be nice to have tho, if you decide to develop it further:
a setting to control the range and the force
also, a way to tag only certain sensors as shields

erisco with that sort of attitude you are sure to have a lot of people support you in your efforts :)

i have tried the palidin industries shield and as you said the currently cannot fill there desired function however the athsetic side to having shields is quite a good prospect untill there functional :) good luck with this mod :)

I published this mod when I was troubleshooting mod loading issues; I was ruling out that publishing was related. That said, since there is evidently interest in a shields mod, I will see what I can do (that is what this mod was supposed to be).

The modding API is limited so unfortunately I cannot implement shields in the way you'd really want, but I can probably implement shields which repel other ships, preventing damaging collisions. When the modding API is improved we can look at absorbing bullets and detonating rockets.
