Breaching The Core

Description
Breaching the Core is a full conversion for VoidExpanse; it removes all of the base items from the game and replaces them with different or rebalanced versions. It also features a completely reworked tech tree.

High points of the mod:
- Three basic sizes of hulls (Corvette, Frigate, Cruiser) with multiple hulls and hull variants in each class for varying roles
- Six new weapon classes (Beam, Plasma, Gun, Cannon, Missile, Drone) that each contain five different weapon types. Each weapon type is available in various sizes. New weapons range in scope from the more traditional to items like the flak cannon (rapid-fires low-damage rounds with a large burst radius, excellect for taking on swarms) or the various drone packages (specific carrier ships use these instead of missiles, they launch from bays and will pursue your locked target while firing weapons based on the package.) There's even a close-range plasma ejector (space flamethrower!) or the semi-tracking Gyroshot guns to choose from.
- New slot tech for each other equipment slot, including the ability to tweak your engines/RCS for more maneuver or raw speed, four different kinds of shields (from the traditional to damage-mitigation barriers to low-strength constant-regen shields), and various power plant or fuel canister upgrades that allow you to pick between efficiency, performance or maximum storage.
- Revamped module equipment that in general gives lower boosts but without downsides and allows a pilot to customize more attributes than ever on ships.
- Tons of new skins for existing ship models as well as a few new ship models outright. Tons of new skins for turrets as well as new turret models as well!

I'm not sure if you are even reading this, but I just thought I might point this out while I am thinking of it.

Your mod is really awesome, and it is mostly completely balanced - except in one way. The "Tachyon" type laser weapon is extremely overpowered, and any enemy that has even one of these becomes impossible to beat. Incidentally, the Hammer-class ships guarding the cargo pods scattered in different systems, all have Tachyon weapons. Some of these guards are directly on the transit path through the system, making it impossible to plot an autopilot route.

@Hammish I found a slight issue in that the new variables you have to pilot ships do not include the basic core ships. For example, I just finished the quest line to become part of the Order faction. They provided me with their Crab Ship, which requires - Piloting light cruisers

Unfortunately with your mod, it does not recognize Piloting light cruisers and thus, I am unable to use this hull. I am not sure how to make corrections or if this is something you can do?

Enjoying the rest of the mod, hoping you are still around and available to fix a few things. TY

As of late 2020, is it ok to run this mod? I see some minor issues like some vanilla items still occasionally appear in the shop/loot/hack, or vanilla ship as quest reward etc. But nothing game breaking. Anyone can play with this mod to the end of the story, and perhaps NG+?

@Hammish. That would be amazing. I was only thinking of this game last night after completing it a few months ago. Really enjoyed this game for what it is. Was listening to the soundtrack on YouTube while working :)

Perhaps, now that I have some spare time, I can come back and fix up this mod. :D

I know I still have all the old files, if nothing else I could probably split off some of the extra gear/weapons into a mod and publish that as more compatible with the base game. A full-conversion mod like I had originally planned and worked on probably isn't in the cards anymore.

I was going to try this mod until I saw your message dreamcvlt. Is it that broken? Seems quiet something if you can't install boosters.

Would be lovely to see an update to be fair. Seems a good mod!

Any chance you've considered updating this lately? It's really such a great mod but seems to have some minor (?) issues with the current version (inability to install boosters and a small handful of other equipment, can't initiate the Pariah's questline etc). I'd really love to see it revived. I'd offer to help if I knew shit about modding.. :frogzone:
